I just called a jewelry store and they said $10 per pennyweight, which still sounds low, especially compared to that place a few pages back paying $24 per pennyweight for 14K!

I was quoted $8-14 per pennyweight on the phone earlier.

Has anyone sold sterling silver? I have a lot of that in rings that are too small.

I booked a gold party. I get 10% of whatever is brought in. I did sell my gold today, too. Couldn't wait for the party. Hey, I wanted new cookware and had to have it today. What can I say? I got $597 for the items minus one charm. Turns out it wasn't real. Cheapskate boyfriend. Anyway, I'm not sure I did as well as some of you, but it's still not a bad haul for things that I had and no longer wanted.

Call around and ask what people are buying for. A pennyweight is less weight than a gram, so make sure you know how they are weighing. I had one place tell me to shop around and come to them last with my quotes and they'd beat the highest one. Might not be a bad idea to let on that you're shopping around.

I sold a some bracelets - I think 4 or 5, one pair of earrings and one kinked snake chain - got $170.

I called 3 jewelers here, one paid $10/$12, the other paid $6/$8, and the other guy was kinda flaky - I don't think he even knew how much he was paying!

I've been following this thread and doing my own research. I have a little less than 3 oz of gold -more than half is 14k; a few items are 10k; and the rest is 18k. Today, I went to 2 places: the first place offered me $1220; the second place $800 (although after he realized I knew it was worth more, he offered $1100). I decided to try usgoldbuyers.com. My husband saved an article for me from the Wall Street Journal, and this was the site used by the author. I should get a quote from them tomorrow, so I'll let you know!

Okay - I got my offer from usgoldbuyers.com -$1320!!

How do they test to figure out if its 14, 18 or 24 kt gold? Or even real for that matter. I have some pieces that I know are gold, but I can't find a marking on them anywhere to save my life.
also, on earrings - where would they be marked?

I just weighed my stuff on a postal scale and it was 8oz. I guess that's 160 pennyweight. Even at the lowest price per pennyweight I was quoted that'd be over $1100. I plan to take it a few places.
