Need suggestions for Dishwasher and Refrigerator

I need a new dishwasher and refridgerator. I have gone to epinions for advice but they only confused me. I want mid priced appliances. Anyone have any suggestions for a good dishwasher and refridgerator. I do not want all the bells and whistles especially on fridge. Just a large freezer and that is about it.

Can anyone recommend a good site with ratings for these appliances?

Thanks so much I got a ton of great info from that thread but I just wanted to add that the Kenmore top of the line DW is made by Bosch for those of you who swear by Kenmore.

Short answer in three words: Whirlpool, Whirlpool, Whirlpool.

Longer answer: Odds are that any refrigerator you buy nowadays will not give you as many years of trouble-free use as they used to. What I want is a good, faithful, well made appliance that gives me the best odds of not needing repair, and most importantly is made in a way that facilitates easy, inexpensive repair when something does go wrong. Any independent repair person can repair your Whirlpool, if something goes wrong, and you have the best probability of it being relatively inexpensive, compared to other brands. Just don't even look at GE or Frigidaire.

Whirlpool also makes Roper (plain, smaller, bargain basement) and Kitchen Aid (more expensive).

Kenmore doesn't make appliances, but they sell appliances made by others, like Whirlpool (good) and GE (not). However, one problem I have become aware of when buying a Kenmore, even if it is really made by Whirlpool, is this: who are you going to get to do service if it needs repair under warranty. I have read many horror stories of people who go through a lot of hassle to get Sears (or the company they hand it off to) to fix their appliance under warranty. This is not the way Sears used to be a decade or so ago.

I would browse appliance repair forums to see what you find.

For buying, you can see what Whirlpool has on their web page, along with their list price, then shop online at Lowe's and your closest appliance superstore.

Frigidaire Professional PLD4555RF
Maytag MDB8751BW[W]
Miele Advanta G2020SC
LG LDS5811[W]
Frigidaire Gallery GLD4355RF[S]
Maytag MDB4651AW[W]
Maytag MDB6601AW[W]

GE Profile PDW9900N[WW]
Kenmore (Sears) 1359
Maytag MDB5601AW[W]
GE Profile PDW8600N[WW]
Frigidaire GLD2445RF[S]
KitchenAid Architect KUDD01DP[WH]
GE Monogram ZBD0710N[SS]
Haier ESD310
Ariston LI670
CR Quick Picks:
These midpriced models provide excellent cleaning, flexible loading, and quiet running:

• Bosch SHE45C0[2]UC , $700
• Kenmore (Sears) 1373[2] , $580, CR Best Buy
• Kenmore (Sears) 1374[2] , $650, CR Best Buy

All are well-equipped dishwashers. The Kenmore models managed to handle our rigorous baked-on brownie mix well with their normal cycles. The Bosch has a stainless-steel tub that's backed by a long warranty, but you'll need to clean its manual filter by hand. The top-rated Kenmore and the Bosch are both very quiet machines. The Kenmores are both CR Best Buys.
If you're interested in a lower-priced dishwasher:

• Maytag MDB4651AW[W] , $400
• Whirlpool DU1100XTP[Q] , $500
• GE GLD4600N[WW] , $460
• Frigidaire Gallery GLD4355RF[S] , $500

Many of the lower-priced models we tested provide very good overall cleaning in a basic package--no stainless interiors or special drying cycles. These dishwashers do not run as quietly and are not as easy to load as some higher- scoring models. The Whirlpool delivered superior washing performance; the GE and the Maytag were very easy to use. The Frigidaire has a shorter cycle time than most.

Refrigerator-wise, there's LOTS of ratings -side by sides, freezer on bottom, freezer on top, etc. so here's their quick pick for freezer on top since you said you weren't looking for bells & whistles

Small (30 inches wide):

• Kenmore (Sears) 7495[2] , $800
• Frigidaire Gallery GLRT183TD[W] , $550
• Frigidaire FRT18S6A[W] , $550

Consider the Kenmore for its performance and efficiency, the Frigidaires for their low price.

Midsized (33 inches wide):

• Hotpoint HTS22GBP[WW] , $650, CR Best Buy
• Kenmore (Sears) 7425[2] , $850
• Whirlpool ET1FHTXM[Q] , $750
• Whirlpool ET1FTEXS[Q] , $850

The Whirlpool and Kenmore are quietest, and the Whirlpool is best-equipped for the price, while the Hotpoint offers the most value.

Hope this helps!

My best friend just went to Home Depot about a month ago. She purchased the floor model that they were clearancing out at a really reduced rate. It's a much nicer dishwasher than she normally would have been able to afford, but since they put it on clearance and then they took an extra 10% off when she asked about it, the price was right.

Don't forget the cash for appliances rebates if you buy energy saver products in April.

I am getting a new washer and a new hot water heater!
