Doing The Wave for Dinner

My DW, DS10 and I had dinner at the Wave Monday, May 11th. We found ourselves at MK around dinner time and decided to head out to grab something other than CS in the park. (Our DD17 had stayed back at our condo so she missed out on this dinner.)

A little before 7:00 we called for an ADR and were offered a 7:15 seating! Just off Splash Mtn, we high-tailed it out of the park and jumped on the resort monorail. We arrived right at 7:15, to a very crowded restaurant. (We were expecting a somewhat less crowded place given that we got the ADR 20 minutes before arrival.) Once checked in, we were told they were runing a little behind, but we should be seated in 10-15 minutes. It actually took over 30 minutes, but hey, it's Disney so waits are part of the deal, right?

During our wait, we stepped into the bar to (try to) order drinks. For whatever reason, the bar was swamped. It took close to 20 minutes and a call for help to mgmt to get our drink orders in. DW and I both ordered Mojitos - a mistake. Either the bar tender was just too busy or he wasn't trained in the proper prep of the drink; the mint was not muddled, rum and sugar syrup was not well mixed, and the drink had so much ice that it was hard to stir. What was delivered to us was a poor version of the classic drink. Soon after we were called to our table.

We started dinner with an evening special flatbreat appetizer. Toppings included chicken, granny smith apple, and carmalized onions. It was so good we asked for the recipe. DS ordered butternut squash soup with mini grilled cheese. The sandwich disappeared quickly but the soup was thick and nicely seasoned. DS requested the curry cream on the side. He tasted it with the soup, thought it was very nice, and enjoyed finding the right soup/cream balance .

For dinners, DS had the tenderloin with mashed root vegetables, DW had the lamb shank served with a lentil pilaf and I had their interpretation of chicken pot pie.

The tenderloin was perfectly cooked and seasoned. DS also enjoyed the root vegi mash.

DW's lamb was good but a bit overcooked. The lentil pilaf was excellent; the better part of that dish.

The pot pie was very innovative. It consisted of chicken (still on the bone) in a cream sauce with vegi's. The pie portion was a round of puff pastry that simply lay on top of the chicken.

In summary, we were pleasantly suprised. The theming of the restaurant fit nicely with the Contemporary resort. Table service was very good (unlike our bar experience.) Would we go back? Perhaps, if we were looking for a nice dinner and couldn't get in to Cali Grill. Unlike some other resort restaurants however, I don't know I'd go out of my way to eat at the Wave. A little more tweaking of the menu and staffing to handle the crowds could put this restaurant on our regular rotation however.

The Wave

Just ate there the 13th of May. Had 815 ADR the bar was huge and empty. Must be the luck of the draw. Saw a few people eating @ the bar a good option if no ADR. Our party of four were impressed with the setting and food. The service was good and a must return place to eat.

We made an ADR for the Wave on our trip in August as something to do that we've never done before. I am looking forward to it even more now. Thanks for the review.
