Hi to al. I haven't been able to reallly get on for more than a min. this week and WOW I don't know if I can get cauht up, but I will skim.
Quick update on us.
Braeton is now healing nicely after a few scares. He's feeling his Wheaties this morning and actually walked down the Hall this morning with his arms open going MOM MY to give me my morning hug. This rarely happens in the morning as usually all he can do is crawl untill he gets to feeling a bit more awake. And after surgery It is Usually months before he get his balance back. He is still wobbly, but Hey This had us feeling pretty good!!! I can't wait to tell DH when he gets back from Dialysis!! Speaking of DH He had to have a veinmapping yesterday and after being told by several specialists including this SAME Doc, that he only had one vein deep in his right arem that would be good enough for a fistula, but they would have to relocate it higher up in the arm and then do the fistula (This would take @6months to heal and he would not qualify for a transplant during this healing process!!!) He was told by the technician that she saw sevearal good veins in BOTH arms!!! So hopefully if he does have to have this it can be in his left arm so he can still draw/paint. He's so worried about his arm. He already has a graph in his left arm that they were never able to access!!
Anyway we will just wait to see!
SO These ARE the days of our lives!!!

Wendy I'm sending you right now. I think we all have these feelings at times and that is why I am so glad you went ahead started this thread. We can see that we aren't so "unnormal or strange" with our feelings or alone. I look at this thread and think WOW!!!! I think we are the best support group ever!!!
Well there goes the kiddos. I guess this is going to be one of "those" mornings !!

I have a question. Are there any TR, ect. about wish trips for older kids? We are in the wish-granting process for a 15 year-old, and all the info we can find is for little kids (it seems as if teens don't get wishes as often...?).

Grandma Linda here - I just HAVE to comment on that.

Mom's and dads of these precious little ones (and big ones) with physical, mental or emotional challenges are SO far from being wimps - You are heros every day of your lives! EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIVES, you ride into battle for your precious children.

But being a hero doesn't mean you are never afraid, never sad, never blue, never annoyed, never scared, never angry. Being a hero means you're all those things, at times, but you do what needs to be done anyway.

Anyone who has ever walked even ten feet in your shoes totally understands. The ones who don't - don't matter. That's the old lady's perspective.

wishes for teens

RWROCKSME - we are in the planning stages for my son's wish trip - he's 13. He wants to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel and go during ESPN weekend. He's a big sports fan and likes Hard Rock coolness and all the memorabilia. We still haven't heard if it's been approved - it's been a little over a month since we told her the idea and I'm getting a little nervous that it won't be approved (his first 3 ideas were no-go's), but we'll see! Does your 15 year old have a specific wish or just overall Orlando?

That is exactly what I have been looking for. Thanks for asking. My son is 12 and all of the reports I can find are for smaller kids including GKTW information. Let me know if you find anything

She actually has not decided on her wish yet...we are in the very early stages and this is just one of her ideas. If she was to do this, she says, her main thing would be to take her two "BFFs" as she calls them (teenagers...LOL!). We've been to Disney many times before, but this would be her "dream" trip, beyond our means...she's very big into planning, and is looking for as much information as she can get to make an informed decision...

BTW, Patti, what were your DS's first 3 ideas? It may be nice to know what they can't do, so she can make a good wish.

I have been frantically searching these pages for TR about older children as well- Sadly I haven't found one yet either. But there seems to be a lot of Wish families going with older children in the weeks to come so hopefully they can bring back some information for the rest of us about things that where good to do, see or eat.

Although, I have found everyone's TR's have been wonderful and have answered many of my questions so THANKS to all those people who have took the time to do them. I'm hoping to do a TR when we get back from disney. Although I haven't figured out how to start a thread...mmm maybe one of these days?

More question!

Thanks to everyone who posted information. This helps out a lot!!!!!

I feel much better knowing that people didn't get their packages till just before the trip. I think I just might be able to breathe a sigh of relief for the moment

Momof2wCF: My DD is 16years old. So I would love to hear about all the things your DS liked at GKTW and also at any of the theme parks. I hear there is so much to do and I know we won't get it all done. But hopefully we can all pick out some stuff we really want to see and start with that first.

From reading these posts I've heard about something called a GACs. I was curious to what that was? And does GKTW supply it? Sorry if these questions have already been answered!

Since we land on a Sunday in the late afternoon. We have decided that this day will just be for looking around the village, going to orientation and doing any activites at the village that night. We may also head over to Wal-Mart to pick up any essentials that we will need for the week. Does anyone know if the Wal-Mart near GKTW is open 24hours?

Another shopping related question hahaha!!! My DD LOVES to shop.. Does anyone know of any good shopping stores down in Florida. See where we live we only have one mall and a few stores like a wal-mart and a zellers. So we would love to spend some time shopping and browsing.

Also, one last question before I leave. Has anyone ever heard of a Dole Whip? If so could you please explain to me what this is? So many people have told me we have to try it. Yet I'm not quite sure where to get this or what it is.

Thanks everyone!! Sorry for all the questions!!!!

From what I understand...GAC = Guest assistance card..maybe? Bill told me that you do recieve it at GKTW when you are at orientation. Bill, 5dwardves adn wendygrace should be able to tell you more about it. I might know some more after we get back!!

Wal-mart--don't know if it is open 24 hours or not...2 options...do a store locator search on Wal-Mart.com or wait until I get back and then I can tell you!!

Shopping...there are some outlet malls nearby and tons of stores for shopping, you will not be at a loss of places to shop. Again, do a search, or try wdwinfo or allearsnet they may have a link to local shopping meccas.

Dole whip...don't know...never had one...I think they are a like it or hate it thinkg. I think someone answered your question earlier...here it is...from lindababe...

Dole whip is pineapple juice and soft serve -or maybe fresh pineapple soft serve is a better description. or both. IT's YUMMY

For all of you looking for tr's about teenagers...no luck here either....my dd is only 4!! Hope you can find something that will help you!!!

You are right, GAC does equal Guest Assistance Card.
There is general information about GACs on the disABILITIES FAQs thread, in post 6.
Unless they have changed things, you get paperwork at Give Kids the World (or from your wish granters, if you don't stay there) that is taken to Guest Services at one of the parks to actually get the GAC. The only GACs we head about before were all the same and gave front of the line access.
What I have heard about recently is more like the 'regular' (for want of a better word) GACs that are described in the FAQs thread, where the needs of the child determine what the GAC offers.
WISH kids who need the 'front of the line' amount of access are getting it, but I think in the past there were a lot more medically unstable kids having WISH trips who could hardly tour even with being able to go to the front of lines, so there are less kids on WISH trips who need that level of access.
Don't worry from this that your child's needs will not be met. I have not read a WISH trip report where they were not.

I am posting a link to this thread in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, so if it bounces down a few pages on the Community Board, you can still find it.
(Threads can end up on page 3 of that board after a few hours if it's busy.)

Anyway, you will find the link on post 3, in the area about MAW trips.
There are a few links to trip reports there - if you want to 'nominate' a trip report to have a link there, send me a PM or email with the link. I can't promise links to every trip report (or that post would be 2 pages long - LOL), but if you know of some I don't have links to that you felt were especially helpful, let me know.

OH MY LOOK AT YOU!!!!

I go to Vegas for a week and come back and you have made a ten page long wish thread.

I want to join! I know my bad for not completing my trip report yet, but I am photoshopping pics. I am a perfectionist yk. I can't abide red eye. Or didn't you know? OK. My goal is an installment every week or two. We used our GKTW world pass in Vegas last week. I am using possibly our last good weekend before frost comes to caulk and paint the exterior windows, and doors on our house. So I couldn't do this weekends installment.

I am still battleing with weekly episodes of salivary stones. I am writing thank you cards to GKTW and all of the sponsors too, so that takes precidence over my TR. Then, yearbook submissions for the homeschool yearbook were due on Oct 15th and I am submitting late by the 30th.

Here is my update on Vegas: We attended the MLG Halo 3 Lan and stayed with my cousin. We visited three of my favorite cousins i grew up with (like sisters and brothers to me) and an aunt I haven't seen in ten years. We saw amazing sites. The Vegas strip, the IMAX theater at the Luxor where we saw the 3D movie Seamonsters. On the way home through Kansas we stopped at the fike museum and saw some actual fossils found in Kansas of Seamonster/dinosoar type sea creatures which went along with the movie, I so love it when that happens. We saw the king tut museum. We did the motion ride at the LUXOR, a must do, very fun, didn't make anyone sick ride. We did the coney island arcade, they gave each of us ten dollars in quarters for the arcade! This give kids the world world pass is awesome. We are planning on using it as much as possible. My older children have decided to try to start competing in major league gaming tournaments all over the US and Canada next year. They are going to get sponsors. When we travel with them to tournaments, we will go to the places on the GKTW world pass. It is amazing that this is all coming together because I truely wanted my dd to see everything in the world. The world pass will allow us to do this and since I have family all over the US to stay with, the only limit for us is getting gas money. There is so much more than just amusement parks on the world pass, there are museums and science centers and educational places too. My heart is just welling up with so much gratitude for this opprotunity.
