Are ice packs allowed on airplanes?

For those of you who have traveled by airplane recently, are the gel-type ice packs allowed in carry-on luggage or not? There have been so many changes that I can't keep the restrictions straight!

My son has a liquid medication that needs to be kept cold. I'm not sure what my options are. I checked Jet Blue's website & that wasn't helpful at all.

Any one know?

Firstof all read the FAA:

and then I always check the airline site itself for updates. I know that insulin has to be kept cool ao I am sure that other meds must be included.

Happy Traveling.

What I did earlier this year was to double baggie some ice and kept the ice and medicine in a small soft sided lunch cooler. It worked well.

I used them in August out of Dulles airport with no problem. We had amox. med for the grand baby that had to be kept cold. We had 2 frozen gel packs in a thermal bag and showed TSA and no problem whatsoever. If they are needed for a medical reason it's not a problem.

My old trick for keeping things cold was Frozen grapes in a small softsided cooler. When the grapes melted we used them as a snack.
Unfortunately, I don't know if anyone has done this lately or if it's still legal.
Good luck all,

Good luck all,
The grape trick is legal and one of your only options for keeping food cold. It's not necessary for meds, however, as ice packs required to keep them cold are granted an exemption from the usual restriction against gels and liquids.
