Day 1, Continued:

Thanks to everyone for reading and for your sweet comments!

Our Wishes cruise driver brought us back to the Grand Floridian marina, and after giving her a big tip (she was fantastic) we disembarked and started walking back to the Grand Floridian monorail station. On the way, I called my parents. From what Bill had told me on the boat, he had already told my dad a few days before, but had asked him to not tell my mom.

(I guess talking to my dad was difficult enough. My dad is retired, and spends a lot of time outside by my parents’ pool, and often doesn’t bother taking the phone outside with him. After trying to call a bunch of times and getting no answer, Bill left a voicemail saying he had Disney questions for my dad and asking him to return the call. Sure enough, that’s all it took for my WDW fanatic dad to call him right away!)

So when my dad answered, I had a short conversation with him and let him know that we were engaged, and asked him to wake my mom – I figured this news was worth waking up for! She groggily came to the phone, and I said, “Guess what, you’re going to have a son in law!” She got all excited and happy and asked some questions but I could tell she wasn’t totally awake yet.

While talking to my mom, we reached the monorail station, Bill carrying the flower pillow, which was actually pretty heavy. When we boarded the monorail, there was another couple inside, and the guy asked if we had just gotten engaged and said that they had, too – on a Wishes cruise! Pretty funny. I called my best friend, Christina, who had also known ahead of time, and left her a voicemail asking her if she wanted to be my matron of honor.

By this time we reached the Magic Kingdom, and we got off the monorail to catch the bus back to PO-R. I remember walking to the bus stops, pretty much just staring down at my new ring, and beaming as quite a few people asked us about the flower pillow and what we were celebrating. I don’t remember much about the bus ride back to PO-R, except that it was one of the best bus rides of my life, and that poor Bill’s arm was aching from holding the flowers.

We got back to PO-R and as we were walking to our room Christina called me back, saying that she had kept her phone by her side ALL night waiting for my call, and she lost reception for ten minutes when on the subway. During that time, she got two voicemails – mine, and one from her mom. Apparently my mother had called everyone she knows, including Christina’s mother! By the time I was done talking with Christina, I had a voicemail from my mom, telling me that she had been half-asleep before but that now she couldn’t sleep and that I should call her back with more details.

We got back to the room and – hurray – Magical Express had delivered our luggage!

Also hurray – our travel agent, Elyse, had sent us a package of rose petals! (Bill had let her in on his plans.)

I remembered that I should probably message Tom and Jen and let them know why we ended up being MIA that evening, and to make plans to meet up the next day. It was late, so I sent them a message letting them know that Bill and I were engaged and that our plan was to spend the next day at Magic Kingdom, knowing that I probably wouldn’t hear back from them until the morning.

Somehow – I still don’t really know how – we managed to unpack, leaving what we would need only for the cruise in our suitcases, answer text messages, photograph the ring, the pillow, the rose petals, and get ready for bed, all while exhausted from our full day and overwhelmed with emotion and excitement. I remember it, yet I don’t… it was a very surreal time.

We finally went to sleep for our first night of our long-awaited trip, me with a gorgeous new ring on my finger, and Bill knowing he could finally relax and really enjoy the trip.

Up next: Magic Kingdom, and will I leave Bill for Pooh?

The ring is beautiful!

That is too funny that your mom had to call everybody she knew and then call you back once she woke up and it completely dawned on her that her daughter was engaged!

What a sweety pie you landed! Your Mom is a riot calling everyone at that hour. She must have been just as excited as you were.

[QUOTE=Amy7979;20929451]Day 1 continued:

Turns out that when his sister danced at Disney World while in high school, her dance group stayed at PO-R and Bill and his mom had visited her there.

I danced in Disney when I was in school too!! How neat is that!! My first trip to Disney was with my Dance Troupe. We spent a week down there taking classes and such. Sadly, I didn't get to stay in one of the infamous resorts. We stayed at the Buena Vista and it's just not the same!
