I'm Helping save a baby whale! Updated with pics!

As some of you know I volunteer at the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network. On Thursday a mother whale and her calf stranded here in Galveston. I helped care for the mom but unfortnately she passed away on Sat morning. Now I am helping to care for the baby. Her baby (named Moby for Moby the whale) seems to be doing ok and we are feeding him a special formula. To see a pic of him being bottle fed check out www.tmmsn.org Thanks for reading.

It's been very interesting. These are Kogia or dwarf whales so I'm learning a lot! We all are actually. It's very rare to see these.

That I am! I was here Thursday when they were brought in and worked a few hours. Then I worked 2 shifts Friday, 1 shift Sat, 1 shift today, and plan to worka shift tomorrow, Wed, and Friday. The baby has to have 24 around the clock babysitters so that if something happens we can react immed. It's also been great working all these shifts because I've watched him be tube fed, bottle fed, had his blood drawn, and just different procedures. Thanks for reading Angel!

Hi Pixie I love knowing that I'm helping these animals. It may just be one but at least I feel I'm doing something. Not to mention that I love all marine mammals!

I forgot about this picture. I took it when they first came in. This is one of our volunteers supporting him before the pool was full enough for him to swim in.

This baby is only a few weeks old,we think less than a month. He barely registers on the table kept for kogias. The mom was 7 feet long and over 450 pounds. The baby is 112 centimeters and 79 pounds. He was weighed today.
