A rainy soggy trip to AK
Well folks, we moved to FL in May and it's time to become an AP holder. So I took a day off work, pulled DD out of summer camp, tossed my good friend in the car, and we headed to AK for a day.
A SOGGY DAY! We get up at 6am and its grey. We get dressed and ready to go and when I walk out to pack the car at 7 I realize its raining. No I had not looked at the report. Its rained all week. And the weather wouldn't change anything. I had ponchos packed.
So at 7am we hit the road. Raining. By 8 I'm on I-4 heading East.. raining. By Winter Haven its not raining anymore :D YAY! We pull into AK parking lot just before 9 and park and walk up to the gates. We exchange our vouchers for APs YAY!!!
By now my friend Sohni is scared. I did the speed walk from the car to the gates and veered her left through security and she was just following along. By the time we hit the turnstiles it was raining.. it'd followed us from the west coast. We put on our ponchos as we pass through Discovery Island. I actually let them stop and look at the animals and listen to the CMs.
We stopped for a photopass and were on our way to EE. The standby line was very long but only because they'd yet to open the main line. I got into line for FPs while Sohni & DD waited in the line waiting for Standby to open. They opened the line and Sohni & DD were next to the FP machines when I was 2 people away from the machines. So they pulled over and waited for me and I joined them in line with our FPs for later.
We walked right on to EE then and it was a GREAT ride. I got to ride with a cool kid from VA. the rest of his family was behind us and my gang was in front of us. It was his 1st time on EE and it was so fun to watch his joy with it.
The 3 of us after EE!!
Then we headed over to the Safari. Standby said 40min and we werent in our window to get another FP so we went to Tusker House for breakfast. YUM they have great breakfast. It was really good stuff! By the time we were done we were able to get our FPs. We grab Safari FPs and walk over to The Lion King. Along the way we jumped in puddels and had some fun. We got to use the "oops we're almost late" entrance to Lion King and were Giraffs. I'd only ever been a Lion in this show, so it was fun to see it from the other side.
Amazing show!! As always! It's always been my favorite! I have a question: When did they start "escorting Simba and his friends out" before they cleared the theater? I've always walked out past Pumba with everything still in place. I figure something must have happened. Someone got hurt, someone vandelized something... anyone know.
Next we went to visit Donald. :D and walked back to have our Safari. The animals were SO playful. They loved the rain. It really was a good rain. Not cold, not warm just right and they LOVED it. The baby elephants were playing in the watering hole. jumping on eachother. spraying water. It was SO fun. The lioness was ON TOP of pride rock! It was UNREAL!!!
After the Safari, yes, its still pouring... we walk the animal trails. It was really fun! We've never done this before. The gorillas were amazing! They were so active and having fun with eachother. Again, a great day for animals.
We stopped and got Mickey Bars. Mickey Bars are an EXCELLENT wet snack. Mickey Bars don't care that its raining. So we sat in the rain and ate Mickey Bars while everyone else ran by.
Sohni & Catherine
Then it was on to ride Kali River Rapids, it was SO fun. We were wet. It was raining.. why not! We actually saw a woman not getting on because "she didn't want to get wet". LOL Umm OK you are in a poncho.. its raining.. WHO CARES!
After Kali it was back to EE! YAY! We love EE! Again, AWESOME ride! We then walked over and rode Dinosaur. We did parent swap since DD really would hate this ride. It was quick & easy and a fun ride as always. After Dino we ran over and saw Tough to be a Bug. LOL Fun as always!
Then was a 1st for me... Nemo. Nemo. It was good. Not great. But it was good. I love how they did the costumes. Reminds me a lot of Broadways The Lion King.
After Nemo it had finally stopped raining YAY!!! It was about 4pm and we wanted to ride the rapids one more time then head home.
I know.. boring Trippie but it was a FUN FUN day!! We loved playing in the rain all day. The rain made for good temps and low crowds.
My most favorite picture of today....
She sums it all up.
