Gabby and I don't smoke and we both have asthma. However, her mom, my mother outlaw, does. We are planning a trip that will include her mom throughout most, if not all of our time at WDW late next year. Her mom has a bad heart, COPD, and diabetes....and yes, she still smokes. It's her last guilty pleasure in life and she refuses to give it up. She also requires a scooter to make it through her days outside of her house. She can't walk 30 feet without being severely winded.

Now, what I am looking to do is to book a suite, preferrably with two bedrooms. I ideally will need to find a resort that has rooms near a DSA. Does anyone know of any of the resorts, DVC or otherwise that offer handicap accessible two bedroom suites near a DSA? Of course, I plan on doing more research on my own, but I know that maps are helpful, but not always spot on in reflecting such areas in relation to rooms. TIA Maggie

PS. I have been informed that a fold out or a murphy bed are unacceptable options for bedding, so it's gonna have to be a suite with two bedrooms. I am just not sleeping in the same room with anyone other than Gabby.

The dedicated two bedrooms units at OKW would be perfect. The smoking area is right outside your door - probably not thirty feet. They are very large and they do have handicap accessible two bedroom units.

Thank you! I was just looking at OKW's map. We almost stayed there, just the two of us on our last trip. I really wanted to stay there, but we switched to the Poly, which was a blessing due to the leg infection that I had and the fact that we were upgraded to CL. It rocked, but I still want to try OKW, so I am hoping that we can make this happen. This might be just the push that Gabby needs to take the DVC leap. (fingers crossed) Maggie

I had few problems when staying at POFQ. There were more DSA's then indicated on the map. Infact one right outside our room, that was not listed...bonus. You can request a room near one, though in my opinion it's not necessary. And POFQ, although very nice, is not as spread out as the other resorts. So no matter what room you're in, you're a very short walk to a DSA. By short I mean less then a half a block.

What kind of info are you looking for? I was just there from Nov. 26th through Dec. 4th and I'm pretty sure I posted earlier on this thread about the DSA's and so forth..

I only breezed through a few posts in this thread so forgive me if this has been discussed. What are your experiences with DSA's at SSR? I get an immediate headache at the smell of smoke and I don't want my vacation ruined.

I believe SSR is set up like OKW with a DSA outside of each building - so as far as OKW goes - where there was no smoking buildings before - now there is a DSA outside of each building

No - they are not covered - except for the 3 small round tables near the pool/bar.. If you go out the back doors of Classic Hall (right where the outside food court tables are on the left), there is a fairly large DSA on the right.. (Again - uncovered..)

As for other DSA's, they are mainly located along the pathway that goes around the lake.. At check-in, the CM's were advising people that they could smoke anywhere along the pathway (or on the Generation Gap Bridge) whether there were ash trays there or not..

I only saw 2 people smoking where they shouldn't have been - and I'm sure it was due to the weather (rain).. Otherwise, everyone seemed to be smoking in the areas that were deemed DSA's..

Wow, that surprises me. It is such a large convention hotel. I wonder what they are telling the smokers over there??

I asked if you could smoke on the baconies, they said "no" $250 fine for smoking in the rooms or balconies. I agree, it is a convention hotel...not all there just for Disney.

It's got nothing to do with being a convention hotel, or not being just for Disney. The company that operates the Dolphin has elected to make it entirely non-smoking (Westin, maybe?). It's probably not unique to that property; most likely, all their hotels are non-smoking. And the Swan has no such restriction.
