Just as an interesting side note The email reservation confirmation I recieved 6/20/07 (not DVC) had no mention about smoking at all...I was looking for something as someone had posted that a notice would be included on all reservations.. guess it will just take time!

We never saw anyone else there, but I know others used it because the butt can got quite full before it was emptied.

I have a lake view reserved at YC. Did you see how the DSAs were around the lake side?

first, let me say how JEALOUS I am of CC.... 6 WEEKS??? um, can you adopt me?
second, I know the maps on this site are kinda blurry, but all ears net has maps (with the DSAs) that are much easier to read. (I hope that is allowed to mention that).
tigger, thank you for your thanks! most of us smokers are very considerate. if I see someone smoking in the park, just walking down the pathway. I say something, or(and I can't beleive this) putting their cig. butt out on the ground when their is an ashtray right there... oooh .. they are only ruining it for the rest of us smokers.
as far as a DSA being by the pool bar, well, that only makes sense. smoking and drinking tend to go together. and afterall, except for the values, there are inside bars without smoking (I take that back, POP has an inside bar, too)
I cracked up at the poster talking about taking an elevator down to the DSA in her bunny slippers. as many smokers do so just before bed, or first thing in the AM (or, in hubby's case, during the night) I think we might end up with some pajama parties!!!

You can mention that.. but are you aware that you can zoom in on the maps provided on this site as much as you like?

In the PDF viewing software, look for this toolbar

And go to this magnifying glass tool :

You can turn this..

Into this...

The zoom is virtually unlimited.. so can you really get a good view of what you're trying to see!

Hope this helps!

I have to agree with Canadian Guy. The maps heere are REALLY clear and easy to read. The maps there, well... I'm not sure how 'clear' a resort map that 2" x 2.5" (one of the All Stars) is clearer than the maps on the DIS; I had to double the size of the Port Orleans map before the DSAs were clear; and the Pop map doesn't seem to be updated

PJ parties at the DSAs... too cute! Yet so true! I got my mom some nice slippers off the disney shopping site for our last trip... as well as some stylish Disney PJs. Nothing like smoking in style Thanks to the FDDP though, we can just spend our "food money" on fancy drinks! So if your walking by a woman sitting out there in Thumper PJ set, with a Martini in one hand and butt in the other... wave to mommy

I decided to compare to DSAs to the Windows Live maps which was a big help in giving me the exact location of each DSA. As PPs have said... most are in fact uncovered. The maps are very deciving, and I discovered that the smoking area I thought was right outside the main building, was in fact closer to the pool bar area. Of course, I do understand how tough it is to create accurate resort maps.

Just a comment for those "single parents" out there. I was in fact a child of a single parent for most of our trips. As I said above, my mom is in fact a smoker and has been since I was a toddler. Keep in mind that as frustrating as the DSAs are in the resort (dragging your child with you)... you'll have to repeat the process constantly in the parks. There is, en essence, no way your child can "escape" the smoke

I know bldgs 18 & 38 were former smoking bldgs. However, as I just said previously, we were in a former smoking room and there was absolutely, positively no scent of smoke whatsoever!!!

I was totally afraid of smelling smoke but I never did....

So do not worry!

Thanks..Just what I wanted to know. You stayed at POR in an old smoking room? People from other resorts said that they could still smell the smell. That's why I'm worried.

Remember, nobody was required to smoke even in smoking rooms. It's entirely possible that a given smoking-optional room had not been smoked in, in long enough for the smell to disappear, or that the room had been cleaned well enough that any odor is long gone...

I can tell you for sure - - our room was not smoked in for the six weeks we stayed there and it had been deep cleaned before we arrived. We did have guests that mentioned they could still smell a faint odor of smoke in the room. I am sure it does linger for a small amount of time.

I really think if we all give this a chance it should work out just fine. As long as Disney doesn't ban smokers all together - which I'm sure they won't - we can all work to make this policy work for everyone!!

Just got back from 10 nights at AS music. Nothing was said at check in regarding the new policy so I asked where the DSAs were. Kinda a drag but only in the morning when Mom & I were used to just stepping outside the room, but we abided by the rule 100%. We did however see a good handfull of people not abiding by the rule, but it maybe because they didnt ask and like I said before, nothing was said to us at check-in. If you went to Concierge desk and got an itinerary prinetd out w/meal ressies, there was a statement on the back about no smoking at the resort except for designated areas.
We saw 3 diff people just step outside their door to smoke. Saw @ a dozen people smoking while they walked towards main building (passing the DSA mind you) The resort still had trash cans by elevators that had ashtrays in them, that is VERY DECIEVING! There were always a butt or 2 in them every day and they are not right by a DSA either. Why do they have those trash cans still there?
We did the dining plan this yr so we went to several other resorts for meals and were very surprised (almost annoyed but not really so) to see the difference in smoking areas at diff resorts. Seemed some of the nicer resorts had bunches of them.
Oh well, no biggie really, just wish it was made more clear at check-in. Its quite possible that the rule breakers I saw were totally unaware of new policy. Cuz it just makes all smoker look bad when a small percentage break the rules. Guilt by association.
