Atlantis (I am NOT liking their website)

Maybe it is just me--but can some of you help a gal out:

How much is the admission for the aquarium and/or the water play area if you are a day visitor?

Someone mentioned on another thread that they booked a room at the Comfort Inn and Suites nearby...I noticed they had a 3pm checkin time..how do you get around that if you are just there for the day?

And if we are a group with 4 adults and 4 kids---will the taxi vans accomodate us and how much will we be charged roughly?

Thanks!

I'll try to help a little......

The taxi fare from the port to Atlantis is $4 per person, each way. On our last trip there, I didn't see any vans that would handle 8 people, so you may have to split up.

Both Atlantis and Comfort Suites will allow you to check in earlier than 3:00 and will give you the wristbands you need to access everything. Even though you can check in, you may not be able to actually get into the room until 3:00. Both hotels have a maximum of 5 people to a room (including kids), so you would need to get 2 rooms. If I remember correctly, the cost of the aquarium/Dig tour was $36 per adult and $22 per child. That does not allow you access to any of the pools or the beach. They were selling a full access pass for $105 per person when we were there in April. DCL also had a full access excursion, but I think it was around $150 per person and included transportation and lunch. I don't remember if there was a less expensive child's price on either of those.

Hope that helps......

I have another question....what is "The Dig"?

Also--if you were staying at ATlantis--would the Aquarium/The Dig be included.

(sorry for the dumb questions...I could almost promise that their website used to have this information on it.)

The Dig is supposed to simulate an archaeological excavation, and is actually part of the aquarium. If you are staying at either Atlantis or Comfort Suites, you have full access to all of the pools, the beach, the aquarium and the Dig.

I agree..... their web site is not the best.

Well I just called...access passes are up to $125/$75...pretty darn steep!

I think we will just limit ourselves to the dig. CAn you still walk on hotel grounds (i.e. explore but NOT utilize the fun stuff)...or you pretty much not permitted?

Thanks!

Now I am confused.<--for them, not you...thanks for your help .

WOW!!! That is steep!! I have to believe a couple of rooms at Comfort Suites would be less expensive, than access passes for 8 people.

We did the Dig tour and wandered the grounds without any problems. There is a lot of the aquarium that you can see from above ground as you walk around, and the grounds are beautiful. The resort is HUGE and we got turned around a couple of times, and had to ask for directions.

I'm confused as well. I think the person you spoke with may be even more confused. I don't think too many Atlantis hotel guests would pay their high room rates without having full access to the resort (I know I wouldn't). You might want to call the Comfort Suites directly and ask them about room rates and access to everything at Atlantis.

We just booked a room at Comfort Suites so that we could have access to Atlantis. I'm not sure when you're cruising, but we were able to get a AAA rate of $135 plus the extra charges for energy/housekeeping. Our total was $175 with taxes and all. We've done this before, and it was as easy as could be. You'll get full access to Atlantis this way and won't be limited. You will have to have two rooms though because you can actually only have four people in a room at Comfort Suites. Let me know if you need any more help.

You may find your access limited at the resort depending on "who" is staying there at the time if you don't have passes. We have stayed there twice and both times we had to show our roomkey when walking on the covered walkway between the lobby area and the royal towers. (One time it was Queen Latifah and the other Michael Jordan.)

I would consider the passes or the hotel room. It would be like walking around Disney and not being able to ride the rides. It is a really cool place.

We just cruised May 24th. We enjoyed Atlantis via the Comfort Suites, but couldn't fit it all in (pool and dig). Disney charges $120 per adult and $99 per child. That would have cost us $438 for our family of 4.

A few things to consider:

1) Comfort Suites is cheaper than Disney, but be aware of ALL their hidden charges:
- Housekeeping gratuity ($4/nite/person 12 and older)
- Energy surcharge ($6/nite/person 16 and older)
- Resort Levy
- Gov't Tax
- Add Taxi fare + tip, both ways ($4/person x 2)

I reserved a room online for $266 with a AAA discount. My final bill at the hotel came to $286, after they added a few more items.

2) Time vs Value: If you plan to sleep late and arrive back at the ship early, Atlantis may not be the best value. In a Cruise Review (Day 2), I wrote about many of the things that waste time (taxi ride, walking, etc.)

- I read a cruise review from someone who took the water taxi to Atlantis. The taxi broke down, and it took 2 hours to get to shore. They had to be towed.
- I know of someone whose ship (another cruise line) arrived 2 hours late to Nassau.
- Cancellation policy at the Comfort Suites was 4 days prior to check-in. If there is bad weather, you are stuck.

3) I haven't seen this myself, but someone reported Comfort Suites wanted a 2-day minimum stay. Be careful this isn't written somewhere on the reservation.

4) My decision to visit Atlantis was based on the cost of other excursions and my kid's ages. We didn't want to stay on the ship, which would have been the cheapest thing. My 4 year old DD was too young for a lot of the excursions. On the other hand, the cost of other excursions was very expensive.

I agree with the above poster in that it is very hard to fit everything in, but we sure had fun trying! There are those hidden charges at Comfort Suites, but it is stated in the reservation that you make if you make it online. If you are planning to get a room for your Sept. 30th cruise, your rates should be very similar to mine. I booked a room for the 28th of Sept. and my AAA rate was $135. It would have been $150 if I didn't have a AAA card. The housekeeping and energy surcharge are as the above poster stated, and there is a 12 percent tax that is added to the original cost of the room. Our total bill will be right at $175, so it is pretty easy to figure before you go. Let me know if I can be of any assistance to you as I just got through booking this a couple of days ago and also did it for our June 2006 cruise. Good luck deciding on what to do!

I found the smarter travel discount to be cheaper than AAA when I booked the CS for this past December.

Did you book online or over the phone? And they allowed you to do a one night reservation instead of two?

I booked the Comfort Suites online - directly from their website. Travelocity had comparable rates, but I can't remember why I didn't use them. It might have had to do with the fact that if there were any issues, you can't get someone on the phone at Travelocity without staying on hold for 3 hours.

We reserved a room for one night. I, personally, have never seen the TWO day minimum stay - that was just something I read on another forum. Anyhow, my DW was insistent that we at least look at the room we paid for (more time wasted), since we obviously wouldn't be staying there overnite - so I walked in and used the lil boys room. A very expensive bathroom break!!

We checked-in to the CS between 10:30am and 11am. I would have preferred to get there a LOT earlier, but the rest of my family moves slower than a pack of turtles in the morning. (me: ) (them: )

The CS clerk issued us (paper) passes for full access to Atlantis, which I immediately applied self-laminating plastic to keep them from getting wet (a tip I read about on these forums). You could use zip-lock bags as well.

After a walk down the street, over the Atlantis lobby, thru the casino (.... to grandmother's house we go ....) we stumbled upon the kiddie pool area. For this trek, I advise folks to wear comfortable walking shoes. Next, we found a towel hut and they will issued us towels. Also, more importantly, they will gave each person a plastic wrist band.

We spent a couple of hours at the kiddie pool. At one point, I broke off and rode the 'lazy' river, which isn't so 'lazy' at the rapids portion. After 2pm, the kids got hungry and we ate hamburgers/fries for $50. After lunch - around 3pm - we had a chance to see the aquariums/dig. We walked around for a long time and saw the Hammerhead sharks and some other outdoor tanks.

A little after 4pm, we decided we'd better start making our way to catch a taxi back to the ship in order to have time to shower/dress for the show or dinner. The walk to the Atlantis lobby, the taxi ride, and the line at the Bahamian Customs house all eat up precious minutes.
