DLRP vs Europa Park

*GASP* I can't even believe that I am asking this question, and realize that it may get me tossed off this website

Has anyone been to that amazing attempt to clone WDW, Europapark? www.europapark.de They have the spinning coffeecups, Space Mountain clone, Spaceship earth clone, Matterhorn bobsleds, Haunted Mansion, and so many other clones of WDW attractions.

We used to frequent Maerchenpark Ruhpolding in my youth, which gave me horrible nightmares (who builds a children's attractions based on Struwwelpeter???!!! )

I hate to admit this, but I am secretly thinking that I may actually visit Europapark this year in addition to DLRP. Feedback, anyone?? ie how long to allow, attractions, etc

Is it even worth the money, or should I just spend more time at DLRP??

Yes, I have been to EUROPA PARK several times. Last visit was on December 2006. We had a great time. It really has lot of similarities to the Disney parks, but I think that's only on the older rides. They even have a mouse as a mascot ... but the owners are also inventing new rides, that are sold all over the world. One of them is located at Islands of Adventure in Florida. EUROPA PARK is not Disneyland, but the best theme park in Germany after all and worth a visit.

thank you - that's what I suspected. The website looks very interesting, and it may be worth a side trip - not too far for me

If you can ignore that the Europapark management has stolen many attractions from Disney than you will have fun.
(They even admit on their DVD that they were in the USA in the 60s and visited a lot of parks and took some ideas! – And as you can see now - they took the most ideas from Disney!)
The lousiest “takeover” is Pirates and Haunted Mansion but with far cheaper audio animatronics. Don’t be scared if you see the cheap dolls in the attractions who only can do 2 moves and they make a lot of noise while moving.

This year they open a new attraction which is a copy of Buzz! (but in the Europapark you are “under water”!)

But the Europapark has a very nice atmosphere and you can spend 2 lovely days there.

But if you go, you have to stay at the Hotel Colosseo! This is the masterpiece of the whole resort. If you like/love DLRP Hotels than you will also love this one. We have stayed 2 times there. And I could just spend the whole time in the hotel. And for 138€ (per adult incl. 2 days in the park) it is not too expensive!

If you want to know more details just send me a PM!

Elaine, that trip report was hilarious - thanks for sharing the link!!

Bexx, be warned about Maerchenpark Ruhpolding.... I was traumatized by the Daumenlutscher diorama and couldn't sleep for about 3 days. My parents (like any good German parents ) decided the best way to cure me of thumb sucking was to watch an amusement park attraction about Daumenlutscher coming and cutting the child's thumbs off with a giant pair of shears. I still remember the blood squirting violently

Even though I lived near that park for years as a teen and adult, I have never gone back... the scars run deep

Yep, that sounds a bit much bavaria!! It's funny how I loved Struwwelpeter when I was very young, but find it just too creepy now - and that's just the book. My DH, on the other hand, refers to it quite often, in an attempt to get our two young DDs to change their ways!!

Sorry for going completely off topic!!
