02/10/07 Western An apology to anyone that was witness my SIL's dreadful behavior

Ok just an open blanket apology to everyone on the Feb 10th Western Magic that witnessed, experienced, was victum of, or in hearshot of any of my SIL's behavior. I spent half my cruise going back to CMs and waitstaff to apologize. We were a large group of 16 family/friends who are all very friendly and laid back. Well my SIL is a drama queen with the maturity level of a 14 year old. One of those that "if you have done something she has done it 3 times" type of people. That stuff is easy to ignore. For some reason this cruise she was out of control. I think it really started with formal night. Everyone else got up at 7:00 am and was ironing their dresses and shirts. Well, she laid by the pool all day and then decided she needed her dress pressed and expected my DB to go and press it for her. She was furious when he said no. She made sure everyone on our hall knew just how mean and unhelpful he is. Then she catches him trying to get a picture with just me (his sister) and his cousin. My cousin wanted a picture of just the three of us because we were all doing pictures together later. Well, she has a fit that we are trying to take a picture without her and then later accuses my DB of trying to take a picture with my best friend who he has just met! So we take a picture and she purposely has an ugly scowl on her face to ruin the picture. That worked out to funny later because I made sure I put that picture on promident display in Shutters. Then we go snorkeling in Grand Caymans and she forgets her sunglasses and hat. Hello eveyone else packed their day bags the night before. Well, she starts yelling and screaming because my brother won't give up his sunglasses and hat. Now he is the most selfish creature ever. By now I am wondering how to attract sharks to just one person. Well, it gets better. We go to the duty free shop on the ship and she rags the poor shop girl about how she has been screwed by Disney not letting the people from Grand Caymans deliver liquor to the ship. The poor girl is trying to explain how it's a security measure and SIL is now on a roll about how she has taken 6 cruises and spends more money going on Disney blah blah blah. So I have to find DB so he can drag her out of the shop. Then I go back to apology to the poor girl and she wants my SIL's cabin number so she can make sure everything is ok. That girl was so nice and I told her that she just needed to let my SIL calm down and she would be fine. Disney couldn't do anything better then what it was doing and my SIL is just one of those people that isn't happy unless she is in some conflict. So evening comes around and we are quite the happy crowd at the Rockin D. The CMs come out dancing in costume and poor Natalie comes over and asks my DB to dance. SIL has the nerve to say "That's my man go find your own". After I pick my jaw up from the table I ask her if she's kidding and she says that's her business. So my DB hauls her out of there and I start the apology that is now second nature to me. Natalie comes over and asks me if SIL really thought she was trying to steal her husband and I have to explain how insecure and crazy SIL is. Whole group spends the rest of the evening trying to look like we don't know who SIL is and reassuring Natalie that she did nothing wrong. Next we figure out that SIL is more pleasant drunk so the rest of the cruise is spent pouring her shots to keep her liquored up. It was so embarrassing and humilating because the rest of us are so easy going and we tried to not let her ruin our fun. Hopefully she didn't ruin anyone's time out there and if she did I am very sorry.

Golly. Poor you. I have a DSIL who is so VERY annoying, but in a totally different way, and she did come with us ONCE on a DCL, and never again. I have the embarkation pictures with her sour puss (as I call it), and it ruined the photos, and our entire week...Sorry that she did that, sounds like you might have salvaged a good time. Next time, don't even mention the cruise to her, we learned this way.

Holy cow! I hope she didn't ruin your trip. I do have to ask, and I'm sorry for doing so, how old is she and how long have they been married? Just curiosity getting the best of me. If you don't want to answer, it's OK. Looking forward to the rest of your report!

oh good lord! I am so sorry this happened to you! I have a SIL who is very annoying, uptight, and a sourpuss. I told my DH to NOT tell his brother about our cruise because they tend to invite themselves to things. Well, of course, he ran his mouth and told his brother, and guess what he said "well, maybe we can come too". DH quickly said it's not for sure yet that we'll go, we are just looking into it right now. I do NOT want her going on my dream vacation. I told DH if they decide to book, I will move our cruise to a later date because I am not going with them!

Bless your heart...

Gosh, as I read your report it sounded like my mother except she doesn't drink. My mom is a control freak and loves to make our entire family miserable. We all took 2 family vacations to Florida together and the last one will be the last. It is a shame when one person ruins it for the rest. My SIL and I just had this conversation yesterday. I booked two DCL vacations because my mom thinks my daughter is her child and she is phobic of ships and water. So ha, ha, ha!!!!!! We shall have one heck of a time on our own!!!

I sure hope you were able to have a good time anyway. Just know you aren't the only one with a wacko family member!

Don't be embarrassed! My family was on that cruise also. As a matter of fact my son (Spencer) was supposed to meet up with Nick. Spencer thinks he met Nick in kids club, but he's not sure. We had a pretty miserable cruise! Everything that could go wrong possibly did! I had just about had it with cast members and completely unloaded on one that final night. We were staying in a category 2 (concierge) and one of our concierge cast members was completely rude and had no clue about anything going on on the ship. On the final night, I accidentially put my room key in my suitcase and then put the suitcases out. My key was the only one to open the safe which contained my purse, jewelry, passports... you know absolutely everything. I went down to guest services since it was after midnight and the lady in guest services refused to give me another concierge key. She said I was just a regular customer not staying in a concierge room. I got a little irate with her. She then just rolled her eyes and started arguing with me that the rest of my family does not have concierge keys either. The arguement got a little heated at that point and she started yelling at me. At this poing I just walked away.

Point being ... I would also like to apologize to anyone standing in line for guest services Friday night at around 12 - 1230 am. I was a little irate and was in a pretty heated arguement with guest services over a room key. I do admit that was pretty stupid, but with all the other problems we had on board during the week, I had just had it! So sorry to all who heard me.

No problem with any questions. She is 35 and they have been married for 11 years. When I first met her she could do nothing but sing my brother's praises and then a year later she does nothing but tears him down. He has been raising her daughter from a previous marriage since she was 2 and just adopted her. I think as soon as she graduates from high school my brother will get out. I am actually going to write him a long email tomorrow because if I try to talk about it on the phone I will get choked up. I can't stand to see him treated like that. He takes so much and then he explodes and she will be good for a few days and then starts again. She doesn't realize that she looks like an a#@ when she is trying to embarrass my brother by yelling at him in front of people. I think she is one of those people that feeds on conflict.
No, she didn't ruin our trip. We actually had the best vacation ever because of the other family/friends there. The CMs in the Rockin D made our vacation the best. My daughter's boyfriend said he found my SIL entertaining because she would spout off something like it was totally true even if it was totally off the mark. He is in the Air Force and she was talking to him about when Clinton sent troops to Iraq. She was also telling our cousin that the last night, when all the characters where in the atrium, that she felt as if Trent (a CM) was talking directly to her when he was introducing the characters. My cousin said he probably was because he had seen her behavior and didn't think she would know Peter Pan from Donald Duck!

I hate that happened to you! I understand getting to the breaking point and it sound like you had good reason. I actually chewed out another guest. I was behind someone at Guest Services that was whining about his wife being traumtized because a security officer had to enter their room after the fireworks malfunction. He was working up to the "What is Disney going to do for me?" and it went all over me. I told him he should be ashamed that Disney was looking out for his safety and all he could do was trying to get something out of it. I can't stand people like that.
We had such a good time except for my SIL. My best friend's husband got chosen for the Match Your Mate and John Travolta dance contest. Her MIL and FIL were chosen for the Match Your Mate. My brother got picked to help the guy on the unicycle and my cousin was picked for the Gloria Gainer dance contest. We didn't stop laughing except when we had to deal with SILzilla. SIL might have been upset also because she can't stand to not have the attention on herself. She seriously acts like she is 14.

Was your brother the big strong guy that helped the guy on the unicycle with the straight jacket? If it was he was hilarious! We never laughed so much.

WOW. That's an amazing story. I wish we could all chip in and send you on another cruise to make up for it! You sound like you have a cheery attitude and tried to make the best of it despite her being there. You didn't have to share a room with her did you? I hate to hear that your BIL is being worn down everyday. Eek. Cheers to you for taking it well!

I don't mean to get too personal, but I think your SIL needs to see a doctor. She shows signs of a real mental illness, whether it be depression or anxiety and her drinking (you mentioning that she's better when she's tipsy...) is a way to cover her pain. She seems to be very insecure which is also another symptom. Most people in pain like that don't realize that it's often something that can be taken care of pretty easily. She needs to start with a physical and go from there and also, even her husband can mention what her behavior is.

I bet she's not very happy most of the time herself and she doesn't know there is a way to feel better. Everyone loses their temper from time to time....even me... but when it's pretty constant, then it's a sign that there's something more to it.

While I'm not the Dr. or play one on tv... I've been there myself and I know what it's like.

Mention to your brother and see if he can get her to get some relief. I'm sure that your brother and her daughter also suffer from dealing with it and they deserve to have things get better also. It will be better for her and her family in the long run.

He was hilarious. You guys really looked like you were having a great time. I also remember the Natalie incident. We didn't sit too far from you guys at most of the shows. If you remember the guy with the guitar show, we were the two on the side from California.
