Trading Pins
Ok, it's been 10 years since I've been to Disney and I'm clueless about the trading pins! How does one get started doing this? Is there a starter pack or something? Is it something you buy at DW or maybe at the Disney store? Is it strictly Disney pins that get traded? I have read that CM's trade pins as well?
Someone give me the scoop, please! We don't want to miss out on anything!

Once you get started you will get addicted. You can buy pins on ebay for cheaper than if you buy at disney itself. The pins must have disney copyright stamped on the back. They must be metal and in good shape. You trade with any cm that has a lanyard on. Green lanyards are only for children. A cm must trade with you if it is a metal disney pin and in good shape. The only way cm would deny the trade is if cm already has that pin on his/her lanyard. I have bought from harval1 on ebay. He has good pins to trade and are inexpensive. Pins usually run around $7 and up at disney.

Yes, pin trading can be addictive..be careful!! They sell starter packs just about everywhere possible so they will be easy to spot..they have 4-5 pins, some have lanyards. There are also lanyard medallions to hang at the bottom of the lanyard. I also suggest buying the pin locks so as not to lose the pins...the regular backs seem to come off pretty easy in my experience.
Another super fun thing to do is pressing pennies -- for 51cents you can press a character image on a penny. It is a lot of fun to search for the machines, and special characters too. My kids loved doing this and it was a lot easier keeping track of the pennies. |

It's so much fun. There are trader packs at the parks. Buy the cheapest ones for trading if you can. It is definately addicting and fun!

As the previous posters said, pin trading can be very addictive! Our daughter has over 300 pins! Many were bought while in the parks and many were bought on e-bay.
There is a gentleman that I regularly buy from on e-bay. He has Disney World merchandise and lots of pins. Go to www.ebay.com. Click on site map. Click on find a member (down towards the bottom right). Type in sellandship. I know that he currently has several starter packs. They are lanyards and have four pins on them. Tell Marc that mickeystoontown sent you. Another tip I have to tell you about. Purchase the very cheapest pins and trade them for the limited edition pins. We would always go to the Disney pin sections of the parks, check out which pins were the new Limited Edition pins and then trade the less expensive pins for the Limited Edition pins. Another thing you need to know is that some Disney pin traders are very picky about your touching their pins. Don't touch the pins, simply tell them which one you want to trade and point to is. Any Disney castmember wearing a pin lanyard has to trade the pins they have displayed. This is not true for the Disney pin traders that come and set up in the parks. They do not have to trade if they don't want to. Hope this helps, Lisa |

My biggest advice is to buy pins for cheap on Ebay to trade, just make sure that they are Disney Trademark pins and not imitations.
