Free Upgrade to CSR from Pop!!

I just returned last night and guess I got a dose of pixie dust this trip. We checked into Pop last Thursday the 17th for just a short 4 night trip. After a long 25 minute wait in what appeared to be a short line (only 4 CMs at the desk checking folks in), it was my turn. I went through the normal stuff as we have stayed at Pop many times and consider ourselves veterans with more than 60 vacations to WDW under our belt. The CM does his computer stuff and tells us our preferences of a king bed, non-smoking are met but have to wait for our room (only noon), so no big deal. He says wait and goes in the back. He comes back and says there is an note on your reservation that we have selected you to be upgraded. Of course, being a skeptic and staying at Pop, I'm thinking, standard to preferred...ok. He said, we would like to upgrade you to CSR.....pause....for free. We looked shocked and say OK. I, of course, being a dope, ask if that is the only moderate we can choose from, as CSR is not our favorite mod. He said he could check. Looking a gift horse in the mouth, we said, yes, we would love to be moved to CSR. So we got a great deal. Paid $77 a night to stay at CSR and got free dining. Wow. We paid $486 for a 4 night stay at CSR, 2 adult one day tickets and free dining. The resort was nice as we've stayed there when it first openned. It's so big, and we were in a nice location, building 4. The quiet pool was never quiet, so was glad we had the parking lot view. We have been upgraded many times within a resort to a better view, but this was the first time we've been upgraded to a different resort.

As for the parks, OMG, we went to the parks during the 5 days we were there and I've never seen such crowds like I saw this trip. We went to the AK on our first day/afternoon and the waits for EE were over an hour and no fast passes, and the safari wait was running about an hour, same for dinosaur. We saw huge waits for most rides at most parks. There were alot of new dining options too. At the food court at Pop they are doing a dinner buffet for you to use your TS credits. (we didn't do it since we had our ADRs). We ate lunch with friends one day at Concourse and they were indeed having a lunch time version of chef mickeys--but not too crowded.

We did the tiny tot early morning at MK on Friday (18th) and this was the lowest crowds we had seen. I don't think anyone knew about this new temporary option. We walked on peterpan and winnie the pooh. The rest of the park openned at 9:00 and we did POC, HM, BTMR, SM all within one hour, then zipped over to Buzz and rode a couple of times in a row. This was the only time in 5 days where the crowds were low.

Congratulations. That is incredible. CSR is where I really wanted to stay for our 9/19 - 9/26 vacation instead of Pop Century, but I couldn't justify the extra $476. It's my best friend and me going, not my family.

OOOOOOoooooooo...that is a nice dose of pixie dust. I'm secretly wishing for an upgrade at Pop from standard to preferred on our upcoming trip...but a bump up to a mod would be so nice!! I'm glad it happened for you, and it sounds like you had a nice trip despite the crowds.

oh, wow, what a great dose of pixie dust! i'd *love* a magical resort upgrade! (i'd even love to pay for an upgrade, but dh says this is supposed to be a "bare bones free dining use up old tickets budget trip!)

may i ask how they transported you from pop to csr? did you have to wait on line and check in all over again at csr? (i know it sounds petty for such a great free perk, but i'm really curious how much time it took to be upgraded to a different resort)

thanks for sharing your magical moment!

That is so great! We were upgraded back in April from the ASM to a 1 br suite at OKW. I love pixie dust.

Sounds like a wonderful trip other than the crowds which everyone is saying is horrible right now. Do you think it will go down after labour day?

Congrats again!

My kids would have hated the upgrade!! We love the POP and the kids really LOVE it!

Congrats on the upgrade. Sorry to hear it was busy. We were at WDW from 7/28/06-8/13/06 and it wasn't crowded at all.

We had a rental car, so moving was no problem. They did offer to move us had we not had a rental car. This is not the only pixie dust we got. Since we had been up that morning since 4:00AM, by the time we checked into Pop around noonish we were starved, so the CM gave us our room keys with all of our info on it and said to turn them into the CM at CSR when we arrived. I asked if we could use our dining credits now before checking into CSR as we knew we had to stand in line to check in AGAIN at CSR (but it was free, so couldn't complain). He checked and said we could use them now. We went to food court and ate lunch and used 2 CS credits. Got in the car, and drove over to CSR. Happily there was NO ONE checking in....I mean the place had CMs standing around chatting. So we gave the CM the cards and she assigned our room and gave us our new cards. I guess you can guess what is next.....yes, at CSR they gave us all new credits. We were not sure until the next day when we ate CS again and it was showing 2 extra credits. We went to the dining desk at CSR and got a print out and it showed 2 extra CS credits. We told the CM we thought this might be wrong and we had too many. She said it was correct.....(but we knew it wasn't, but we were going to argue with her). Since there was the 2 of us, we used them for breakfast CS at the pepper market, because we had no time to use them. So while some folks are stretching them, we had too many.

MelanieC, they didn't force us to take the upgrade. They offered it to us and told me it was free, then asked me, do I want it, or do I want to stay at Pop. It was totally my choice, so I guess you could have stayed at Pop. But to stay at a moderate and save $70 a night off of the room, when you can stay at Pop anytime was a no brainer for me. Plus with the coffee pot and refrigerator in the room, I didn't really hesitate--maybe a second or two, because I didn't see it coming.

That is great that you were upgraded!! I just upgraded our family... from POP to CSR by using a promo code.

Did you have a special occasion noted on your ressie... or were they overbooked that they CHOSE you to upgrade for free?
