Yes, it is a little overkill if you ask me. I have to say my generosity is slowing down.

I think that Tampa was just poking fun at all the donation/gift threads. And I have to agree with him.

And Mal, even you started a gift thread with your name on it I must say, that after having 'hosted' a gift thread, I'm glad it's you and not me that's fielding all the PM's you must be getting about "Where's my desk!"

Yes he may well have been but that is spamming and since he moderates another forum or used too he knows better.

I did start a gift thread (never said I didn't or that they were not allowed- I also did not put my name first or ask to be gifted first in fact I was not gifted at all I traded for my desk.)

The most recent gift thread I started was on an item(animators desk and stool) that was exculsive to DLR and most would not be able to get but there are plenty available to DLR quests who could very easily gift those that can not visit DLR to obtain them.

I do not start gift threads on items everyday only on special items that can be easily gotten by some players and impossible to get by others.

These cards are free for the asking you do not have to quest to do them in park or in game, do not have to wait in a host line to play a game to win them and can get more when ever you can visit the park since there is not 90 day limit.

So far only a few DLR peeps have gifted these to the gift thread and I myself have traded items to get extras to be able to gift.

sorry if anyone took offense to that thread maybe all gift threads should just cease.

Mal

In the context you've just stated, I think they're great. People who know me know that I do a pretty good job with helping out with filling the game with wanted posters, all I ask for is sweet quest points in return.. whatever the heck they are!

(btw: how am I going to get all that magic now?!)

I think people should not start things for items that can not easly be gotten. (Inferno, Green Flips, Etc.) But i think it is good to do it that can be gotten easily by some. (Desk, Ears, Etc) so i agress with mal

Well, the can of worms was opened, so I'd like to add my two cents.
Personally, gifts are great, when they aren't requested. If someone honestly CANNOT obtain something for one reason or another, asking to TRADE for it is acceptable. Asking to have it DONATED to them, is not. I'm sure everyone who plays VMK has something they can trade for what they want to have. An offer of anything is better than asking for something free.
Yes, the Animator's Desk Sets were given out at DCA, but isn't the time that person took to ask for the card worth something?
Just my opinion, although I believe there are many other Dis'ers here who have NOT donated for this very same reason. I myself have a few Pirate Quest hats. Each and every one of them took my time away from something else. At least an hour, because I'm not that great at fireworks and there were dc issues with VMK as well. For this reason, I won't be gifting any to anyone who asked for a free hat. If I meet someone on the game who needs a hat but doesn't ask for it as a gift, they will more than likely get one for free. That's how gifts are given.
Flame away! I'm sure someone out there disagrees with me.

Yeah, demanding donations is a bit much... Takes away from the very charitable feeling.

Actually a can of worms was not opened.

It is perfectly acceptable if a DIS member asks to be gifted just as it is acceptable for you to chose not to gift if someone asks.

This was not a thread about who thinks gifting or wishlists or gift thread are right or wrong.

It was about spamming the Trade/wish board with trash.
