Driving to Florida

When driving to Florida (from an hour east of Toronto) is it possible to do it with just one overnight stop each way? or will we need 2?

I'm a solo driver from Toronto - The 2 day drive is easy. Stopped near the Kentucky/Tennessee border each way.

Depends!!

We don't stop at all!!! We drive straight thru and you can see we are not far from you! So it completely depends how long you intend to drive before stopping. We drove last Oct. and stopped long enough for the kids to stretch their legs (and use the bathroom) and we made it there in 24 hours. We left at 4:00 in the afternoon so the kids were only up for a few hours and then asleep for the night. By the time they woke up we were in Georgia!!!! I would think if you wanted to stop for the night you could break up the driving into 12 hour shifts. Good Luck!!

You can definitely do it with just one stop. Dh insisted on driving home straight through last year and it was a nightmare. He was almost falling asleep while driving at 3am in W Virginia. Now that we will have a little one no way would I allow him to drive straight through. Not worth my family's safety IMHO although I know many here advocate it.

I have tried it just about every way. As a teenager, going to Daytona, we drove straight through with two of us sharing the driving. We left at 9PM and rotated every 4 hours. I was a little tired, and the first day was a bit of a right-off.
Two years ago, we left at 8PM, I drove until 7AM, and my FIL took over until we stopped for breakfast at 8:30. We made great time, driving through the night, with mostly bare roads. I took over driving again, and we stopped in Macon, Georgia for supper, a swim, and a good night's sleep. I was whipped, and slept for 13 hours. We arrived at WDW at 1PM.
Last year, we left at 4AM, and stopped in Dalton, Georgia. We went for a swim, and had a relaxing night. We ate breakfast, and hit the road at 7AM. We arrived at WDW at 3PM, still fairly refreshed.
This year, I have a little more time off work, so we are stopping for 2 nights, and we have decided to leave at noon. We will stop in Kentucky (7.5 hours in), and Valdosta, Georgia (10 hours for day 2). After breakfast we will drive the last 3.5 hours, arriving around noon.
Return trip, we uually stop about 12 hours into the drive, and do the last 9 on day 2. We get home around supper time.

Just a quick note here.......... Only drive what you are comfortable with. I totally agree with dsnygirl as most people would be in that same boat. I personally can drive alot longer than the average person as that is what I do for a living. I am a driving instructor and spend 13-14 hours in a car most days. Safety is the 1st concern of course for your family and the others on the road as well. I usually drive straight through myself, but still even though we get there in 24 hours I still stop to take little breaks to stretch my legs and use the washrooms (those are restrooms for our American friends)

This year on the way home Snowwhite also helped with the driving and that definately made things easier. Have fun and stay safe!
