5th grade graduation song

Hello all:

I have to pick a song for the 5th graders at my elementary school to sing at their graduation ceremony. I'm stumped.

I have located a copy of the kareoke (sp?) version of "You've Got a Friend in Me" from Toy Story. I thought the kids would already know the lyrics and the sentiment is nice for end-of-the-year. But, my question is - do you think the 5th graders would find this song too baby-ish? Be honest!!

If so, any suggestions?

(By the way - I will not be asking the kids what they think - I'll get a million suggestions, feelings will get hurt, major drama would ensue!! )

We didn't graduate 5 grade but for 8th grade they gave us a list of 5 songs and everyone had to vote. The one with the most was our song. It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday by boys to men won. We also had to sing a song the principal picked and that was What a wonderful world.

When one of mine was promoted from 5th grade they sang "I Beleive I Can Fly" I think from the Space Jam movie.

So do you all think "You've Got a Friend in Me" is too baby-ish?

When I graduated from Goldsmith Elementary we sang "Puttin' on the Ritz." (I know you're a Louisville gal!). Don't really know what that had to do with graduation...

ETA: I don't think it's too babish for that AGE. I think it's appropriate. But it's not very contemporary and might be a little difficult to sing during some parts.

How about "My Humps" or the song that goes, "Rob a jewelry store and tell em to make me a grill...."

Oh, wait, you mean a song appropriate for 5th graders....

Just kidding...I'd ask my 5th grader but he's at Space Camp right now. I'll think some more. I feel like there's a nice country song that would fit but it's not coming to me.

I do like your idea.

For another suggestion, how about We Go Together from Grease? We had a Grandparents Day program at school a couple weeks ago and each grade did a song and a little dance. The 5th graders did this song and before it, the Principal did a little speech about how they are together now and will be moving on to middle school next year, etc... It was actually touching. And it looked like a fun song for the kids to sing with all the "rammalammalammma dippitydingdedong"

What about "Dream Big" by Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band?

Not sure where to get the music for it, but its a cool song, although it does make a short mention of praying.

When you cry be sure to dry your eyes,
cause better days are sure to come.
And when you smile be sure to smile wide,
and don't let them know that they have won.
And when you walk, walk with pride,
and don't show the hurt inside,
because the pain will soon be gone.

Chorus:
And when you dream, dream big, as big as the ocean blue. Cause when you dream it might come true.
When you dream, dream big.

And when you laugh be sure to laugh out loud,
cause it will carry all your cares away.
And when you see, see the beauty
all around and in yourself, and it will help you feel okay.
And when you pray, pray for strength
to help to carry on when the troubles come your way.

Way too babyish. My 5th grader would have nothing to do with that. (a boy perspective)

the girls may like it, but they may not.

They are singing Time of your Life by Green Day for thier graduation/concert.

When our younger 2 "graduated" from 6th grade they both sang

World's Greatest by R Kelly

I think that it is a great song for the age group and is very positive.

I am a mountain.
I am a tall tree.
Oh I am a swif wind sweeping the country.
I am river down in the valley.
Oh I am a vision, I can see clearly.
If any one asks you who I am just stand up tall look them in the face and say..

I知 that star up in the sky
I知 that moutain deep up high.
Hey you made it
I知 the worlds greatest*m
I知 that little bit of hope in my backs against the rope I can feel it, mm
I知 the worlds greatest.

I am a giant.
I am a egale.
Oh I am a lion down in the jungle
I am a marching band
I am the people
I am heavin head
I am a hero
If any one asks you who I am just stand up tall look them in the face and say..

I知 that star up in the sky
I知 that moutain deep up high.
Hey you made it
I知 the worlds greatest
I知 that little bit of hope in my backs against the rope I can feel it.
I知 the worlds greatest.

I知 that star up in the sky
I知 that moutain deep up high.
Hey you made it
I知 the worlds greatest
I知 that little bit of hope in my backs against the rope I can feel it.
I知 the worlds greatest.

Ohh
I知 that star up in the sky
I知 that moutain deep up high.
Hey you made it
I知 the worlds greatest
I知 that little bit of hope in my backs against the rope I can feel it.
I知 the worlds greatest.

I知 that star up in the sky
I知 that moutain deep up high.
Hey you made it
I知 the worlds greatest
I知 that little bit of hope in my backs against the rope I can feel it.
I知 the worlds greatest.

It made me cry both times that I saw it done.
But I think "I Believe I Can Fly" would also be very good.

Our school district has a district wide 5th grade choral festival and one of their songs was "You've Got A Friend In Me." Another one of my son's favorite from the program was "Lean On Me."

The theme song from the TV show "Friends" ,or my son's 8th grade Graduation slide show put to music was... "What a Wonderful World"...I don't think any of the parents had a dry eye after that!
