Y'all see what I have to deal with??

This is from my Yankee (Hag) best friend.
And the bad part is most of its true

You Know You're From South Carolina When......

1. Your whole town completely shuts down for 1 inch of snow or just the
threat of snow.

2. There ain't no such thing as "lunch." There's "dinner" and then
there's
"supper.".

3. Sweet tea is appropriate for all meals, and you start drinking it
when
you're two.

4. "Backards and forwards" means, "I know everything about you.".......

5. There is a Dairy Queen in every town with a population of 1000 or
more,
except for Orangeburg which has Dairy-O.

6. You know that going "barefootin" is one of the great joys of life.

7. You can say anything bad about someone as long as you start with the
words bless his/her heart.

8. You think everyone from a bigger city has an accent.

9. "Vacation" means going to Myrtle Beach.

10. Out of state friends beg you to send them fireworks.

11. You know at least three places to get great fried chicken.

13. You ever went to parties at a pasture, barn, or in the middle of a
dirt
road.

14. You ever went cow-tipping or snipe hunting.

15. You don't "take", you "carry" or "tote"... as in "You want me to
carry
you down to the 7-11?".

16. A soft drink isn't soda, cola, or pop, it's Coke.

17. You call it a "buggy" and not a shopping cart.

18. People actually grow, eat and like okra!

19. You give directions using KFC and Waffle House as landmarks. HAHA!

20. You still see Dale Earndheart tributes on cars.

21. Your annual church fundraiser always deals with bbq and potato
salad.

22. You have a sunburn from May to October.

23. Your 'heavy winter clothing' consists of some turtleneck sweaters,
a
fuzzy jacket, and your daddy's boots.

24. One of your neighbors has a confederate flag hanging on their front
porch.

25. Those "damn yankees" are taking over your
school/church/workplace/neighborhood.

26. You've been "properly raised", and yankees love it when they hear
you
say "ma'am" and "sir".

27. You get your carbs from biscuits, rolls, pancakes, and grits.

28. Your school classes were cancelled because of a hurricane.

29. You know Krispy Kreme makes the best doughnut.

30. You have actually uttered the phrase "It's too hot to go to the
pool".

31. The back with music from Johhny Rebel blastin' out of his
radio......

32. You think that people who complain about the humidity in other
states
are sissies.......

33. "Ya'll" is a word.

34. The only channel you could get on your TV was WIS.

35. Driving to the party on a four wheeler is quite normal.

36. You know exactly where to go when the party is at "the lake".

37. You buy your groceries at Winn-Dixie, Bi Lo, or Piggly
Wiggly.........

38. You know someone who works at Hooters.........

I have no idea what that means, but it doesn't sound like it is DIS boards appropriate to me.

I find the South very intimidating. It has always struck me as a place of intolerance, fear, anti-intellectualism and conformity. Of course, the only place I have been in the South is rural Alabama. I bet if I spent more time in the South I might have a better impression of the region.

As a damn Yankee, I found the south to be a very interesting place to live. Granted 32 years was living in Northern Virginia, which is in itself a separate state, but that was the first time I ever heard ma'am or sir. Moving further south to Georgia was a culture shock, you have to live there to get it, but suffice it to say, the War of Northern Aggression is still alive and well in many areas. I have visited Alabama and Mississippi a few times, the people have always been very nice.

Now that I am back to being a Yankee, everyone thinks I am from the south because I talk funny, and say things like y'all. And I eat grits and like them. I do pass on Okra, yuk.

Well except for the specific geographic locations listed that list could be applicable to where I live. I was reminded once again of my Texas roots at lunch when I put the multi word phrase s** of a b**** into one word that sounded something like sumb****. I am constantly remided that I am from the redneck side of the tracks. However as my lunch companion (who was a black female from the same background) reminded me, you are what you are and the last people you want to pretend around are your closest friends at work so she said she was going to be who she was and I should be who I am.

I knew there was a reason we got along so well.

By the way luch was great shrimp ettoufe, red beans and rice, turnip greens, and okra and tomatos, with jalapeno cornbread and sweet tea.
