What if shore excursions are cancelled due to weather?
We are planning a cruise for August 2013, which can be a difficult time for weather. I've read tons of trip reports, and on occasion I've read that someone's excursion was cancelled due to weather. I would think they don't charge for the excursion in this situation, right? It sounds like a dumb question when I type it out like this but you never know.

If booked thru DCL and canceled by them or the operator, there is no charge. If you book privately, read the fine print on your contract.
Most private operators state up front that they don't charge if your ship cannot dock/tender or if they have to cancel for any reason. If you don't show up, you get charged. |

This recently happened to us on a DCL booked excursion. At first, because the weather was iffy, we were given the option of cancelling or going on the excursion (dolphin swim). At the last minute the tour operator made the call to cancel the excursion altogether. They were originally going to have us take our excursion tickets to Guest Services to get our account credited, but then they informed us that it would automatically be handled. Should this happen to you, be certain whether or not you have to visit Guest Services for the credit.

Same situation happended to me at Costa Maya where I was suppose to scuba dive but DCL cancelled it because of bad weather and I was not charged. I was asked if I wanted to do something else but I didn't see anything that was available entice me to sign up. I've never booked a non-Disney port adventure.

We were on the ship when DCL cancelled our excursion for San Juan Puerto Rico. We were extremely disappointed as I had signed us up for Rainforest Hike and waterfall swim. We are a pretty active family and visiting museums and shopping don't excite us as much. We were give a full refund and an option of rebooking another the excursion. They only had a few available but unfortunately, my youngest did not meet the age requirement for many of the other excursions available. There was a cooking excursion available as well. So, we ended up hiring a bus driver right outside the port to drive us around. It was 2 hour tour for $10 per person. Definitely cheaper than anything else Disney was offering. I think, if you cruise you have to be prepared for possible cancellations.

My husband and his friend were signed up to golf in Cozumelthru DCL, and the excursion had to be cancelled because of weather. Our stop, the next day, at Grand Cayman had to be changed to Key West for the following day, DCL contacted the guys and made arraingments for them to golf on Key West. I thought that was nice of them.
