Everyone wants the villa close to the elevator, with the good view, close to the parking lot, without the connecting door, with the connecting door. Sometimes you just get the crappy villa. And you wait a long time to get that crappy villa.
That's funny that you mention that...I guess WE are the family that gets the "crappy" villa. I purposefully ask for rooms as far away from the lobby and the elevators as possible. Unfortunately some people don't consider that's it's 2am and that not EVERYBODY was at MK with them as they are walking past my room talking very loudly and animatedly. 2pm? Talk away! 2am? I want peace and quiet and am fine hoofing it down the the VERY last room in the resort! lol

Actually, the room I got was VERY close to the elevators. They were diagonally across from my room, i.e., my room was next to last on that bead.
I could hear the "ping" of the elevator all night. Also, there were strange noises in the room that sounded to me not like the usual water running stuff, but rather the cables associated with an elevator.

After being a theme park commando and then listening to that and not sleeping well for a few days I'd have made Malificent look like one of the princesses! lol

If you get a room near an elevator you will hear the bell/ping of the doors opening, etc, you will also feel a slight vibration and a humming noise.

I never like to be near the elevators or the lobby because as was stated way too many people that have no idea of what quiet voices are.

3 things are guaranteed whenever I check in:
1) my room will be a minimum of one mile from the lobby
2) my room key will not work
3) and at that moment my son will announce he has to poop

Yes! Dh and kids used to laugh at me (although they did what I said) because I always said, when walking through hotel hallways "shhhh, someone might be trying to sleep". Honestly, I always said this because I'm always annoyed by outside noises....and who knows when someone is trying to catch some quiet time in their room.

A miscommunication/lack of communication with mouse keeping that coincided with a broken lock on a room that wasn't the initial room you were assigned to was unfortunate but no way a nightmare. Who knows, maybe no one was originally assigned that room because someone knew about the lock and someone who didn't notice the notatation, trying to meet your requests, assigned you to a room they shouldn't have.

In all likelihood, that is EXACTLY what happened. So many times the left hand at a large resort has no idea what the right hand is doing.

The lock was only the finale, after getting the opposite of what I requested and waiting so long for the new room. In other words, it was a lot of stumbles on the way "home."

For our first and only stay at AKV we had nearly the exact same location as your original, OP.

We were in the studio of a 2br lockoff - it was the second door on the right in the LAST bead section of the left side of the resort.

We had our vehicle on that trip, and no lie - one day we got ALL the way to the car before I realized that I had left something in the room - SO, I had to walk ALLLLLLL the way back to the room.

I did cheat a little, we got in the car, and I parked it at the front door, and then went back in - it was HUNDREDS of steps from the front door of the lobby to our room door. It was an absolutely ridiculous distance from the bus stops, the lobby, Mara, the pool, well - it was an absolutely ridiculous distance from CIVILIZATION!!!!! I REALLY felt like I was on an African safari! HAHA

Disney went a little too far with that theme I think!

I wondered at one point during the week if they would allow me to use roller skates.... a bike... OR just install a moving walkway like at the airport!

I have owned at OKW and SSR for many years and that there are problems checking in are /should be anticipated some time. The 4 p.m. rooms ready status is with everything going right. The 2 instances in all this time where it was a problem, one could be solved in an hour or so/ the other we had to live with until another unit opened up 2 days later. Sorry for the inconvenience/and your walking problem...but Disney does try it's best to observe and get you into your room when possible!
