Booking for Yourself and Others onboard

Hi All,

We have booked onboard for ourselves many times but never for another family (to join us). They are going to give us their names, birth dates and credit card, however I wonder if that's enough. They also want two rooms so that would be three in total. Any insight into if this is doable?

Thanks!

CJM

I want to know this too! Do they still give you the coupons/offers that expire 30 days after getting off the ship for giving to friends and family? If so, what is the deal for them? 10% off and 10% down, any onboard credit with them? I could probably look for my old "coupons" but I don't know if they've made changes to that offer or even offer it anymore.

How many of the post cruise/expires in 30 days coupons do you get?

I should be a TA as I've gotten a handful of families to sail and more are in the works but I just don't remember all the details of if they don't have me book for them while I'm on board.

It is a better deal for your friend or family if you can book them onboard....the Friend & Family certificate is just for an OBC...NOT the 10% off discount or the 10% deposit...they have to put down 20% if they use the certificate.

We were able to book as many rooms as we had people on our current reservation. Since it was me, DH, and DD, we were able to book three cabins. Tai just needed full names, birthdates, and we used our credit card number for the deposits (they gave us checks to reimburse when we got home). All three cabins got the 10% fare discount, the 10% deposit, and $200 OBC (silver 7-night).

Later in the cruise Tai gave us a Friends & Family coupon that was for the $200 OBC ONLY, no discount or reduced deposit, and had to be booked within 30 days of coupon issue date for the same cruise we booked, no exceptions. No one used it.

Am thinking of a cruise early next year and have some friends sailing this summer. Are they allowed to book and get the discount and onboard credit for a room for someone that isn't currently on the ship?

I find it easiest if my friends or other family members make their own reservation in advance, keep it with DCL (versus placing it with a TA at the time of booking), and then it's super easy to rebook it since the rebooking agent can transfer everything from their original reservation to a new reservation including the deposit, and you don't have to worry about carrying around their personal information and credit card.

If there is a cruise that your friends and family really want to take, I wouldn't have them wait until your next cruise since prices could rise or availability could diminish between now and when you sail. However, if they do book in advance, they would either need to pay the full 20% deposit, or only pre-book 1 or 2 people, since you can't get the deposit discount until the reservation is rebooked onboard. If there isn't a date that they have in mind, then you only need to book one person per room to secure the onboard booking benefits, and then they could shift it to whatever date they decide on.

As mentioned before, it is much more advantageous for you to rebook them versus using a Friends & Family certificate. In addition to not having the full benefits, I've heard that the F&F discount gets negated should one of you decide to change cruise dates at a future date, while there is no restriction on an onboard booking, other than you may all need to be booked on the same cruise to begin with, but either of you can change dates once booked without impacting the other.

Well I should report on what actually happened.

We were able to book the same number of staterooms for the number of people on the current cruise. For us that was 2 as it was only my wife and I. Now, we were on back to back cruises and could have booked 2 on each.

The deal was 10% off, 50% deposit and $275 stateroom credit (gold).

There were no coupons provided to take home for any "savings" including an on-board offer.

Hope this helps.

On our last cruise, we booked (new) 3 future cabins with the discounts, etc. with only 2 people staying in 1 cabin (all on the same cruise, for 6 people, the two of us plus 4 others). I'm not sure what the restrictions are--like many Disney things, it may be a rule that is not consistently enforced.

Us too! Only DH & I were on the Panama cruise in January, when I booked 4 cabins for a total of 14 people for a Spring 2012 MR cruise. I took everyones birthdates, addresses and just put the deposits on my on board account and received checks from everyone when I got home.

I later booked a dummy Dream cruise for us too.

50% deposit? I thought it was 10% if on board. Did you do concierge?

Sounds like way to go is to get friends/family to book a placeholder on own, give you the info and then you re-book onboard for them. That sounds like a nice plan and then I don't have to know their card/birthdate info as it is in the system. Like!
