Dinner for 3rd birthday!

My nephew will be turning 3 during our trip this April. We wanted to do something special for him. He LOVES Mickey Mouse, so we really want to do something revolved around that. We have been planning on Chef Mickeys, but the more I'm reading, the more I read awful reviews. Is it horrible? Does anyone have another suggestion?

Thanks!

I dont think it's awful. We did my grandson's 2nd birthdat there. They brought him out a cupcake with a candle and sang to him. He loved it.

1) Chef Mickey's would be OK for the kid, as he would see Mickey.
2) But, the characters at Chef Mickey's do not stay long with guests.
3) As an adult, it has bad food.
4) If he mainly wants Mickey, do Tusker House.
5) As a kid, he will be fine, and as an adult, you will enjoy the food.

************************************************** *

Our Ratings of Chef Mickey's: (rev 4/13/2012)
. . . food price value: D
. . . food quality: D
. . . food quantity per serving: A
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: B
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: B
. . . eatery atmosphere: C
. . . eatery convenience: B
. . . staff friendliness: C
. . . staff attentiveness: C
. . . character interaction: C

NOTE: As with most character meals, you are paying for the characters,
and possibly atmosphere, but not the food. Food is ample, but quality only
average or even slightly below. Unfortunately, we believe the food quality
has gone down hill significantly. During this visit, the characters really
breezed through, and did not spend a lot of time with the children. Even
with our opinion that CM has gone downhill, this meal took the bar even
below our worst thoughts.

Our Ratings of Tusker House Buffet (Breakfast // Lunch): (8/2/2012)
. . . food price value: B // B
. . . food quality: B // B
. . . food quantity per serving: A
. . . food prep speed: A // A
. . . food selection: B // B
. . . seating quantity: C // C
. . . seating comfort: C // C
. . . eatery atmosphere: C // C
. . . eatery convenience: B // B
. . . staff friendliness: B // B
. . . staff attentiveness: C // B
. . . character interaction: B

NOTE: The buffets ARE reasonably priced for a Disney park eatery.
Although the selection could be more varied, there are menu items
for most tastes. Although highly Americanized, the dishes do have
an African flair. Breakfast is usually very crowded (up to 1,100 people
served), and ADR's are highly recommended. There are at four-to-five
really good vegetarian options on the buffet. Character interaction is
probably the best of any character meal, as they spend an awful lot
of time with the guests. Lunch has a taste for the pickiest and most
adventurous eaters. Safari Donald is available for pictures (but, he
signs no autographs) before you enter, and Daisy-Goofy-Mickey-Minnie
circulate within.
