How much to tip???

Long story short, my grandma died (age105), and I flew to Seattle for the memorial service (no funeral). The first morning at my mom and dads house I managed to fall down a couple stairs, fracturing my fibula, chipped my tibia and partia
lly dislocated it. Anyway, I am hoping to fly back on Tuesday if the Orthopedic surgeon releases me to fly. I h
ave a wheelchair arranged through the airline since I have to be non weight bearing for 6 weeks post op. My question is how much to tip the person that wheels me through the airports. Also, any tips on how to manage the airplane with a cast or splint that needs to be elevated? I was able to get an aisle seat but cannot afford first class or business class.

$5. $10 if they go out of their way (one wheelchair attendant at LAS stopped so I could get some magazines and food for the flight).

I'd tip $10 unless they do something offensive. Ask the airline about elevating your leg. I can't figure out how you'd do that except put a bag under the seat in front of you and prop it on that. I doubt that would be considered 'elevation' though.

Sorry about your Grandmother

I broke my knee while on vacation a few years ago and had to fly home 3 days later. My DH was able to switch our seats so that we were in a row with no seats in front of us, I used my DD's backpack under my foot and elevated my leg that way. I would call the airline and see if they can find you a similar seat. If they can't get you a better seat before you arrive, once you check in see if that person can find you another seat. Good luck!

I was on crutches with a knee brace and they brought a wheelchair to the gate and then transferred me to a golfcart to take me to our connecting flight.

I took a pain pill just before boarding the 1st plane and managed OK for the most part, but I do think I was a bit loopy and would not want to be alone and taking the meds while flying. Of course, I don't always have the best reaction to any kind of medication, so others would probably do fine.

ETA: I only had the bag under my foot during the flight, for take-off and landing it had to be put away.

What airline are you on? If first class or business is not full you should be able to up grade for a discount when you check in. Or see if there is economy+ which has extra leg room. Of course this is not a given, but something to consider. Good luck with the flight!

First of all I am so sorry for your loss, I am sure she is in a much better place right now.

As others have said I wouldn't tip more than $10, if they do something exceptional then I would give more. My grandma uses a weelchair whenever she flights, and she gives between $5 - $15, or even nothing at all, depending on how they treat her.

At least $10.

Check in with an agent, not at a kiosk, and explain the situation. Hopefully they will be sympathetic and move your seat.

Thanks everyone. I will try for an upgrade at the airport. I am flying United and their bulkhead seats are the emergency exit rows which counts me out as I would be unable to help people get out of the plane. The lady on the phone was able to upgrade me to economy plus which is supposed to have a little more legroom and moved me from the back to row 11. It sounds like the tip amount should be $5-$10. Thanks again
