Last I checked, supervisors were human too and will have whatever kind of attitude they are going to have. Some are better at hiding their attitude than others, but guess what, you aren't goign to change what or how people think regardless of how unprofessional and appalling you find it.

Nursing is a tough job. Thise who don't do have no idea of the demands and stresses placed on a staff nurse on a dialy basis. Add to that stress the need to mentor a new grad who then decides to leave in a few months after you spent months training him/her. Yeah...it gets annoying....

Yes she is a fairly new nurse, she was hired as a new grad and has been out of orientation about 3 or 4 months. I am sure our manager will be upset about her leaving so soon. A lot of people start on nights with the intention of getting a day spot as soon as one opens up on the floor. But I think they hope is that after investing 3 months of training into a new grad they hope you stay on our floor.

We are short staffed on night most of the time it is hard to get people to work on our floor overnights since it is a heavy floor. Her leaving is not that big of a deal. I doubt anyone is jealous, mental health is not a super desirable job. Honestly, I have never seen my coworkers behave like that. Day shift is known for eating each other, but not night shift. This issue just made people crazy. It was really out of hand. I am glad to be off tonight.
Well, it doesn't sound like she has worked at the hospital for a year which is necessary to be covered under the FMLA - I thought? Unless they changed it or I'm remembering it wrong.

If that is the case, then the hospital wouldn't be required to offer her unpaid leave or hold a job for her.

She worked as a patient sitter before being hired as a nurse, and she is making an internal transfer, so she is eligible. This is dependent upon her starting on that unit and making it thought the 90 day probation period, which unless they fire her for being pregnant I can't imagine she wouldn't make it. She is one of the few that shows up on time and doesn't call out on weekends or holidays. If her new unit does not work out, I am sure my unit will take her back. She is a good worker. My floor hires a lot of new grads, and I know I am going to get backlash for this, but a lot of the young ones call off on the weekends and are often late. She is of that age bracket but has a good work ethic. She is a good nurse. I have never worked in mental health, but I worry about safety of a pregnant nurse there.

Well - you might get her back. FMLA doesn't require that they take her back in the exact same position that she left. They only have to offer something similar (staff nurse) at equal pay.

If it's ok at the hospital for her not to tell them she's pregnant, then she's fine. Her co- workers should not act ugly about it. Having said that, I think that I would feel as though I had not been honest and the anxiety that would have me a nervous wreck.

If by law they aren't allowed to base her being hired upon her being pregnant and aren't legally allowed to ask her, why would she be obligated to tell them? It's not supposed to be a deciding factor, so it shouldn't matter.
