High above Los Angeles, in the San Gabriel Mountains, stands the Mount Wilson Observatory at 5,710 feet (1,524 meters). This observatory, built in 1917, was the largest in the world for over 30 years. It was used by famous astronomers, like Edwin Hubble, and important discoveries that have stood the test of time were made at this very spot. For those visiting the Disneyland Resort, the drive to this historic landmark is less than 60 miles away and makes for a very enjoyable day visit.

That was a really informative blog.

I am fascinated with astronomy. Edwin Hubble's discovery that the universe is expanding was probably one of the greatest in the last 150 years. It really began the golden age of astronomy.

I so wish Disney would create a dark ride based on all the knowledge mankind has nowadays about our universe. It would be such a cool ride.

I enjoyed the blog immensely but am wondering what would have happened if you had asked the folks at the observatory to explain "Hubble's variable" (old astronomy joke).
