Going to the beach?

We are going to Disney next week. Half of my family is insistent that they want to go to the beach. I know we will need to get a rental car for this.
Can anyone tell me how far the beach is from Disney? Is there a beach that people recommend? Is it worth it?

You can go at Daytona beach that is about an hour away.
Or Tampa Bay (Clearwater) about the same amount of time

I would agree Daytona is "about" an hour. Clearwater is going to be much closer to an hour and 30 minutes though. I don't personally think either drive is worth it but I've seen both coasts and am not a huge beach fan (always seem to end up running into a big breakout of sand fleas!).

ewww yes, I feel the same way. I would personally be happier to add an extra day onto our tickets and go to both water parks.

The closest beach is Cocoa Beach, on the atlantic Ocean side. From what I have read, plenty of DIS'ers like it there.

It is well worth the extra half hour to go to Clearwater, but whether or not it is worth it to take a day out of your vacation to do so depends on your travel style. If you don't get to the beach very often or if you just want a more relaxed day in the middle of the park visit, then by all means, go. If you don't get to WDW very often, I'd probably skip it.

We did the opposite, driving from Cocoa Beach for one day at Disney World. It was tiring, but a nice break. We also drive over to Busch Gardens once or twice from Orlando if we have Busch passes.

We are headed to Cocoa Beach Sat the 22nd. They annual air show is this weekend. Then Monday we are headed to the mouse. Best deals I have found on hotels are through the hotel website using their membership program.
