Keeping Kids Entertained... HELP!

I'm looking for a few suggestions...

DD's birthday party is quickly approaching, and I am beginning to plan some things. While this is a "child's" party, DD is only turning one, and has no real friends, aside from family and OUR friends kids.

We are planning on a short afternoon party for DD - BBQ, cake, presents - followed by festivities for the adults afterwards, and for out of town family to visit each other and DD. We are planning on having adult yard games in the evening, followed by a bonfire.

Inadvertently, there will be some kids forced to hang around our house for the evening with their parents. The kids we KNOW will be sticking around are between 5 and 8. I'm going to have lots of chalk, bubbles, beach balls and the sprinkler running, and s'mores in the evening. The kids can all watch movies or play video games inside if they wish, or just run around outside.

Is this enough to keep kids entertained? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you can swing it, renting a bounce house would keep that age group very entertained and be a huge hit. But if it's a budget buster, skip it.

I think all the stuff you mentioned will be enough. I have been to many first birthdays with guests of varied ages and the kids do a great job entertaining themselves if there are a group of them. Maybe an ice cream sundae bar at dessert time would be a nice treat!

Ice cream sundae bar is always a hit. Also, dollar stores usually have some water squirters (animal shapes, or water guns depending on your stand with such things). These could be lifesavers if it gets hot. Consider a scavenger hunt with prizes. Balloon volleyball (blow up a balloon and they have to keep it up, whoever let's it drop is out) . Just a few ideas if you want to have a few in your back pocket in case.
