Help! I didn't do an AKL room request

I booked Sav view for our upcoming trip which is just over 2 weeks away. I didn't request a specific savannah view or floor. I keep reading about specific requests on this and should I have done it? Is it too late to do this?

Would an AKL guru please help me - we've visited this resort many a time but never stayed here yet.

Please and thank you

I have NEVER made a specific room request or just one specific building. My requests are usually things like quiet location or reasonable distance from the food court, or away from water. I have gotten my requests almost everytime except for our honeymoon where we paid for a king bed and got two queens? They were able to find a king bed for us.

Our last resort stay I asked for quiet location and away from the water. Ds has autism and we needed a quiet location and not facing the pool or lake. We got we asked for. If your son has problems with noise, ask for a room not near the elevators.

I have't stayed at AKL before, but have read about some rooms are quite a long trek to the main areas. I have a reservation there in Dec and have requested a room close to the pool because that's where I'd like to be. Think about what you want and then you'll have an idea if you need a request.

The pp mentioned she had an autistic son, so they request rooms with quiet locations. Some people don't like everyone walking by their door, so they request a room at the end of the hall. Some want to be close to parking, others to the bus stops...think if there's something special you'd like.

At AKL, some people prefer certain floors for their savannah views. I've read that with lower floor you get a more close up view of the animals, but some people prefer the higher floors because you get a more expansive view.

Also, the animals on the 3 different savannahs are different. Some people request a certain savannah because they want to see certain animals.

Sunset Savannah: Male Giraffe, Bongo, Impala, Thompsons Gazelles, Ostrich, Ankole Cattle, Waterbuck, African crown cranes, stork and blue cranes.

Arusha Savannah: Pelicans, geese, giraffe, ankole cattle, zebra, Wildebeast, eland, gemsbok

Uzima Savannah: Giraffe, Impala, Kudu, Bongo, Blesbok, Thompsons Gazelles

just back have stayed twice

First time we went, we requested Zebra trail and were on the third floor near the lobby. This trail is close to the Pool and food court and looks out over the main savana, Arusha. You also want to request no higher than 3rd floor because the trees could get in your way. Requesting nearer the lobby, you will not have a long walk to anything. The downside is everyone has to walk by your room to get to the lobby. I didn't find it noisy but some do. You can have a Zebra trail that is further from the lobby but you will have to walk a bit when getting to the buses. This time we did pool view. pool view was close to buses and pool.

Here are few tips from our trips. Animals are viewed on second floor lookouts that are thru out the wings. The best animal viewing tip I had was mousekeeping, the fire escapes. To find them, just go to the green exit signs. For some reason the animals tend to congragate there. So if you look out on the savana and wonder where they are hiding...check out the fire escapes.

The only animal viewing dining was on the other side at the Villa area. Boma and Jiko are in the Main lodge and look out near the pool but great food.

If you follow the reception desk down to the end in the lobby, you will see a DVC stand. Behind the DVC is a lounge that is wonderful for sitting early morning before anyone discovers it is there. You may even see animals outside there while enjoying breakfast. This lounge is comfortable and somewhat hidden but gets busier as the day goes on. I did laundry one morning and sat in the lounge waiting for the cycle to end.

If you have kids, the resort has hidden mickey's and animal finding check off list. My kids loved these activities this time. The last time they were younger and did pool activities and cookie decorating. They also have other activities in the lobby area such as, drum beating, and arts and crafts, story time at 7pm at the outside fire pit.

There are guides at the main look out areas who will tell you about the animals.

Have a great time, here's some PD
I love the disboards take me to the magic and free dining

Or you could just relax, request nothing, and enjoy your vacation .

In all our family's trips to Disney we have never made a room request at any of the resorts and we have yet to be disappointed in the room given to us. Even got a few upgrades we didn't ask for or expect.

You still have time to request an area. I suggest arusha view, that is the main one. And in my opinion the best. I wouldn't get too crazy with specific floors and or rooms, then if they can not satisfy part of your request they may just put you somewhere different all together. We have stayed in many different spots on arusha and they are all great. It is the only place to see zebras, which is DS favorite animal.

Personally, I would go with Sunset Savannah on the Kudu trail. Here are pictures of why (of course, I didn't request any location, this was just given to me. I LOVED this view. These pictures were all taken from my room balcony)

I have never had a bad Savannah view.

I prefer 3rd floor, and if I request anything it is to be near a Giraffe feeding station.

The halls are not that long, I think it is much worse at the Boardwalk. Also the best views I have had have always been further down the halls.

If you want a window seat at Sanaah you have to request it. Even if you don't eat there go over to the DVC side and look at their Savannah. It is really nice.

Don't miss the view out behind the pool to the left (facing the pool from the main doors out). This is where they do the night vision googles as well (fun).

We got a Kudu trail room near the end on the 2nd floor - I had requested a quiet area and we got it. We also got one of the most amazing savannah views ever. We had 4 giraffe that would go congregate and go to sleep outside of our room almost every night. The room looked across to kidani and we could see Sanaa. We ate at Sanaa (and lucked into a window seat) and realized that we were looking across at our room. The room was a bit of a hike from the lobby but by the end of the trip we didn't mind it at all and for all the animals we saw... so worth it. Room 2363 - highly recommend it!!!!

Unless you booked at a Moderate Resort with a king bed room, you did not pay for a king bed room. Moderate Resorts are the only resort category that you can book a king bed room. Deluxes, Deluxe Villas, and Values do NOT have king bed as a booking category.
