Alcohol of any kind is most-oft swapped at our Yankee Swap. (Works especially well for those of us who don't drink to grab the other things )

Usually at least one person does a dud gift (large can of bake beans, case of Spaghetti O's, though that one actually delighted the hostess who had 3 small children who loved them.)

Usually the White Elephant type of exchange is something off the wall. We do a GOOD gift exchange also and there I usually bring booze. Tequila Rose has a great gift set for $20.

I think it would all go a bit wrong if we started calling it 'dirty santa'!!!

I've always called it Secret Santa, too...

My dept decided to do that this year, also. I always give gift cards.

Dirty Santa is supposed to be just that...something that Santa wouldn't give. Like a gag gifts, odd gifts that NO one would want, etc. With gifts like this, you WANT to get rid of your gift and hopefully to keep the BEST out of the Junk!

Some things that I have seen-
Chia Pets
Wacky Underwear- boxers with funny pictures, BIG underwear, etc
Tacky Christmas decorations- (Salt and Pepper Santa Pig Shakers)
Odd CD's, Old Videos (I Love Lucy, etc)
Toilet Paper holder- a decorated plunger
Gift Cards to the Dollar Store
Funny Sunglasses

You get the jest of it...have fun at your game! This is always a great "ice breaker to ANY party"

Thanks for all the suggestions. DH gave me a little more info. They are hoping to get kind of a mix of gag gifts and some that are actually pretty nice like restaurant gift cards and such. The idea is to do the best you can with a $10 spending limit. If you can get something good - a dvd, gift card, etc - then go that route. If you can't find anything like that, then get the best gag gift you can buy with 10 bucks. Should be a hoot.

Not all dirty santas exchanges are meant to be a bunch of a junkie gifts. I would clarify with the host before bringing those tacky gifts when others have brought thoughtful gifts. We play dirty santa, but the "dirty" part is in the stealing. Everyone wants to "steal" the best gifts. If it is nothing but a pile of junk under the tree, what is the fun is stealing junk?

If you want to bring a gag gift, then hide a nice gift card inside that can be revealed at the end.
