Amtrak seat configurations

I looked into Amtrak after reading a thread about it and I found the price for our Christmas trip to be incrediable...$615R/T for the 6 of us...

Now I'm wondering what is the coach seat configuration...

XX aisle XX

or something else...

Cool Amtrak seats

i. yes the seats are just the way you thought. It is xx the aisle xx so we usually have 4 in our party. we sit across from each other. We keep saying we would like to try the sleeper room , but the prices i received were very exp. So we just get coach seats.

Virtually all Amtrak coaches have 2-2 seating, meaning two seats either side of a center aisle, just as you described. The only exceptions are a handful of business class cars with 2-1 seats, and you won't be seeing any of those on a train to Disney.

XX aisle XX
YY aisle YY

Usually there is a lever at the bottom of the seats that will unlock them and allow you to turn them all the way around so that YY and XX are facing each other, which works good for people traveling together. This is what I have seen many families do on the Sunset Limited. I'm not sure if all their trains are the same.:D

Just FYI....
I've been on the NY to Orlando train once and the auto train once. I didn't see the seats face each other on either train.

Doing my autotrain research

I know this is an old thread, but what do you suggest for a family of 5. We are 2 adults and 3 children. I am hoping that the AT will not be crowded and there will be an extra seat for us since I really do not want to "recline" next to an unknown person.

I really am not worried about this-just curious and looking forward to it as we leave this Thursday 2/12!!!

Wow, what an old thread. Is this train still running? Maybe its worth it with the cost of gas these days.

Yeah, despite the lack of funding and infrastructure support for Amtrak by our Legislature (vs. the airline handouts) - it's still running!

Sure would be nice to see our rail system benefit from all this gas brouhaha. I took the train to NYC from Boston and it was pretty painless. The Acella was wonderful, the regional was okay but the seating wasn't nearly as good as the Acella. I would love to book a sleeper for a trip to Florida...maybe down the road.

WOW what an old post....ha. it would be nice if they had the money to fix up our rail system. we took amtrak at least 8 or 9 trips to disney . but 2 summers ago just me and dh went so we actually booked the sleeper car first time, of course the kids were mad cause they never had them. but it was great. what a diff. it made . it was the best thing we ever paid for....the prices to vary, ours was kinda in the middle price. i checked the other day actually and the sleeper was very pricy. but if you can get one, i would def . pay for it . its worth the money.

For the best prices you need to book at the 11 month mark. Booking late can cost 2-3 times what you'll probably pay by booking early.

Why are there so many angry people on the DIS?

Kewl... Uber Old thread!!! Zurg'swife!!! You havent aged one bit!!

I wish there was a way for us Midwestners to take a train down to Florida. Best we can do is head East then down, making it way to pricey for our family of 5.
