Package changes--should I wait to make payment till my dates are set?

I've booked a FD package for Dec but am not 100% sure of the dates. Should I wait to make payments on the package until I am sure of my dates and the final total (I may be dropping a day so it will be less total)? I like the idea of making incremental payments before the total is due in full at 45 days out (forced savings right to WDW's pocket LOL). Anyone had issues with refunds if they overpaid for a package? TIA!

If you are paid in full and make a change that decreases the total, you will be refunded what was overpaid. Keep in mind that if you make any changes after the 45 day mark, you are subject to a $50 change fee. Disney usually waives this fee if the total cost increases, but you will most likely get charged if the change decreases the total, so I would make sure to adjust your dates no later than 45 days prior to arrival. You could always pay a good portion of the total due, leaving a balance equal (or close to) what 1 night would cost, which would leave a small balance due should you decide to keep that night or get a small refund should the balance left be a little less than what's credited.

I would make incremental payments from time to time, when you have $$ to spare. Then you won't spend the extra on other stuff that's not as important, and leaving you with a big bill due to WDW near your 45 day mark. If you pay down your WDW trip incrementally from time to time, you'd be surprised how much you can accomplish over the months before your trip. As PP said, leave a small balance towards the 45 day mark, so that not so much is out there that might have to be refunded.
