Barb your entrée alone at HBD makes me want to book a lunch there. Em still refuses to return but I wonder how much bribing it would take!

I love the idea of the mini desserts. I'm not a grapefruit fan either so I would probably pass on that one. Before I saw your choice I eyed that banana toffee cake. If had the full size banana white-chocolate toffee dessert that was awesome. I wonder if this is the mini version of that. It looks a little different from when I had it in 2012 so maybe they have updated it as well.

Sounds like an awesome lunch and a great way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of DHS!

Sorry, can't help you with the celebrity caricatures. I'm so bad at that. I barely recognize people when they are standing next to me!

Great review of the breakfast at the Old Faithful Lounge, everything looks so delicious, getting excited about our trip even though it's months away. I have never dined at the HBD, but would love to go just to try the salad. One of these days I guess! We are going back to PT50's in December for our DHS TS.

Wonderful Brown Derby review! Thanks so much for the info regarding the lunch menu, I didn't know they offered that. Hopefully it will become a permanent thing going forward. I love the idea of the dessert trio! My sister had the grapefruit cake last year and shared a bite with me. We both loved it but we also love grapefruit. Our server cautioned Nancy that if she didn't like grapefruit, she probably wouldn't enjoy the cake so we were warned beforehand, LOL. I had the white chocolate and banana toffee tower and it was amazing! It looked different from your banana toffee dessert so they've maybe changed it a bit. This is what mine looked like:

It's 10:30 in the morning and I'm craving this now.

Great update Barb!

The Plaza looks awesome. I have never been.

The Ooey Gooey Cake looks fantastic. I really need to get back to LTT to try it. While I have had that great salad there, I have yet to try dessert. That would be right up my alley. Your photos had me drooling.

Bailey is sooooo cute. Just want to hug him.

Hi Niki! How's the October trip planning going? Are we still on for La Hacienda on the 27th?

Regarding YSH, it makes me sad when I think about my last two meals there since prior to those Yachtsman was my second favorite signature. I'm willing to give it one more shot though in October, but if they don't deliver then it's three strikes you're out...at least for a few years.

The Plaza was pretty good, however my favorite place for lunch at MK is still Liberty Tree. You must go back there sometime for the Ooey Gooey dessert!!

As for Bailey, she is growing so fast and is currently at the peak of her teething stage...making it impossible to wear sandals around her. Apparently toes make for tasty chew toys. OUCH! But we still love her!

I love the grapefruit cake! But I am also glad that I can try a couple of other desserts as well. I love the idea of mini desserts!

I'm determined to try either the burger or chicken sandwich next time. You will have to tell me which one you think is better.

The birthday card was a nice touch and personal souvenior

The Brown Derby was a surprisingly good meal. I plan to return sometime during my October trip so that I can try the burger or the chicken sandwich. Want to come with?

Yes, I had always felt like I was missing out on something really special so it was great to finally have the chance to taste the famous grapefruit cake. If I'd had a full-size piece of cake I would have felt very guilty about only taking a bite and would have probably eaten most of it even though I really didn't like it at all. But with the mini dessert trio, I took a bite of the mini-cake, took a sip of water to cleanse that nasty grapefruit taste from my palate , and then quickly moved on to the next dessert.

I've made a few dinner reservation but I have to add lunch at BD after seeing your shrimp. It's been so long since we've eaten there ... Geez I need to go eat something lol your pictures are so good there making me hungry. As always following along

Adding *** I sent my Husband to whole foods to get some shrimp and going to try to make your shrimp entree tonight. I've been dieting for a month and craving carbs yikes!! ***
Hi Debby! How did your shrimp dish turn out? Hope it was great and that your meal at HBD is also great.

I've never tried the grapefruit cake either so what a good way.
The prosciutto brittle reminded of thin bacon that has been overcooked until it's hard and brittle but not burnt. I don't remember tasting it though, so I can't really tell you how it tasted.

(3.) YEAH for WL!! That was our family's "first" WDW experience and we just loved it!! Glad to see that you had a fabulous time there all around!!

Loving your TR!!

Yay for the Boardwalk!! Hope you have a great stay!

While 50's PTC is definitely still my favorite at DHS, if I have the time for a second day at DHS then I'll probably be going to HBD for lunch.

And another "Yay" for Wilderness Lodge!! May I just say that you have excellent taste in Disney resorts?

I totally understand Em's hesitation about returning to HBD given your last experience there. I have to admit that I was on the lookout for movement on the floor around me...even though it has been nearly two years.

Yes, if you only have one day to spend at DHS then 50's Prime Time is definitely the way to go, IMHO. But if you ever have the time to include a second visit, then HBD is worth a try.

I too hope that HBD keeps the special lunch menu. In fact, I would love to see Le Cellier follow their lead and go back to having a special lunch menu with some lighter, less expensive options. For instance, I used to love their burger.

Oh, and that banana toffee dessert looks delicious!! Thanks for sharing the pic with us.

After my lunch at the Hollywood Brown Derby I did a few things at DHS, which included saying hi to Walt...

Seeing a 3D Sneak Preview of a Disney movie which was released later in May...

...and catching an American Idol show.

On a side note, I was sad to hear that this will be closing sometime in January 2015.

Anyway, then I remembered that Starring Rolls closes at 4:00 and since there was something I wanted to get there, I backtracked and paid a visit to the Brown Derby's next door neighbor...

I hadn't been inside Starring Rolls for a few years, so I enjoyed looking around to see what they had to offer. There were assorted muffins...

...and bagels.

There were croissants, both plain...

...and chocolate.

Then there were some very tasty looking cinnamon rolls...

...as well as some apple turnovers.

And speaking of apple, there were assorted danish including both apple and cherry (or at least I think they were cherry??)...

...as well as cheese danish.

Inside the glass case were these massive sandwiches, including Black Forest Ham...

and Turkey.

Looking for dessert? Then Starring Rolls is your place, with chocolate chip cookies...

and M & M brownies.

Plus of course, there are lots and lots of cupcakes, including Red Velvet...

...Chocolate-Peanut Butter

...and Butterfinger.

And finally, there was a special 25th Anniversary Chocolate-Nutella cupcake...

This was a chocolate cupcake with hazelnut buttercream frosting and topped with chocolate ganache, chocolate sprinkles, and Mickey candy confetti.

So what did I get that afternoon at Starring Rolls Cafe??? Something that I had never had before at DHS.

I got a cheese danish to go and saved it to have for breakfast. But even the next morning it still tasted fresh and delicious...two thumbs way up!

Oh, and I need to give a shout out to Jeri (jerseytinkerbell) for bringing this little gem to my attention. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

My next meal was Paula & Hunter's 10th Anniversary dinner. I'm going to hold off on my review of this meal, as I think that Paula (smile4stamps) should be the first to report on this one. Therefore...

Next up: A visit to Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie

Great Brown Derby update! Between the cheaper lunch offerings and the new dessert trio, I'm definitely more interested in returning for lunch there (although my annual pass expires in 3 days, so I guess that won't be happening soon).

Your Starring Rolls/attraction update at DHS has me thinking about the park overall. I really like it (or rather, I really like parts of it), but honestly the place is a mess. Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard are strong areas, and Star Tours and Toy Story Mania both have large followings. But the rest of the park doesn't offer much, and the park lost a significant amount of 'spirit' when actual production and animation ceased there. After spending some time around the recent "hot sets" at Universal, I've realized how much energy that would add to the park (see the live thread for more details).

DHS has some great components, but I'd love for some of those 'rumors' surrounding it to materialize.

I've only had a cheese danish once in my life - from the Main Street Bakery before it switched to a Starbucks
Wow, it was delicious and for some reason, I haven't tried one since
Hoping I can pick one up somewhere in October as I can't remember seeing them in MSB since Starbucks took over

With American Idol closing in January, I'm sure the rumors abound as to what might replace it. I just hope they don't let it sit empty again. Then of course there are all the Star Wars rumors.
