Playa Mia Cosumel

So Playa Mia is the beach excursion that DCL offers right? I just want to make sure because it seems strange how much more expensive they are. The individual rates are higher plus they charge for kids age 3 and if you book directly on the Playa Mia website they start at age 4. I have a family of 6 so the difference is about $140. However that price doesn't include transportation. Is findng transportation easy? and does anyone know what it might cost?

Thanks

Transportation to and from Playa Mia is easy to get and relatively inexpensive. The most recent (2014) rates are $17.00 (1-4 passengers), $25 (5 passengers), and $34.00 (6-8 passengers) each way. There is a taxi stand located across the pedestrain bridge at Punta Langosta cruise port.

It is always more expensive but keep in mind if for some reason you can't get to Cozumel because of bad weather or something unforeseen you won't have to pay for the excursion, some privately booked places make you pay in advance and don't give refunds if you don't show up. Also the ship won't leave without you if booked through DCL and the bus is late getting back to ship. Our first cruise weather was bad and we couldn't dock at CC, the 2nd one we were 5 hours late getting to CC because of a passenger medical issue and we had to make an unexpected stop in Nassau. Send pixie dust our way that we get a full day at CC on Friday the 13th. Crap, I just realized it was the 13th as I typed this.

I would say that going to Playa Mia is a very safe excursion to do on your own. You don't even need to pre-book it. You can just take a taxi from Punta Langosta and purchase your day pass when you arrive at Playa Mia. And a benefit to doing it on your own, rather than through DCL, is that you can arrive and depart whenever you wish. Just make sure that you allow yourself a good amount of time to get back to the ship (I usually aim to get back an hour before the ship departs if I'm relying on my own transportation).

We did Playa Mia on our own a few weeks ago. You can read about my experience on my blog, as well as menus and pricing.
