Save $$ with POP?

Hi all!

Need some quick advice! With FD for our dates available, we could save $1064 by staying at POP over WL. We do not mind paying for WL, as Dining will be included, however thats a nice chunk of savings we could use on other things. My kids will be 9 & 5, and DH says he does not mind the look of POP at all. Will we love POP? It looks fun for the kids, they loved AKL last year and Im sure they will love WL too, but is being frugal worth the loss of amenities? We will be there 8/29/14-9/714 if that helps! TIA!!!

Your kids will probably like Pop. However free dining rooms are already sold out for a lot of dates at Pop. If you are going to change, do it now.

Thats a pretty big chunk of savings! We are not all that keen on the smaller beds and usually do the moderates, but if I could save $1K I would certainly consider staying at POP. The theming is fun and the kids will enjoy it.

If you have the extra $$ and are OK spending it, I would say to write down all of the things that you would not get by going to a value and see if it is worth the extra $$ to stay at WL. We have never stayed there, but have eaten there and the resort looks very nice. It really comes down to how much time you plan to stay at the resort. If you are park commando's then I say go to POP and save. If you like to spend time at the pool or hanging at the resort, I would probably say WL.

That is a great savings, so I guess it all depends on what you want to spend. We like Pop, have stayed there and visited a couple times.

My only question for you is you say you are checking in on 8/29. The free dining promotion doesn't start until the 31st. Are you going to do a split stay? You would only get the free dining if you check in on or after the 31st. And that portion of your trip would have to have the room and tickets.

I love pop! Its a great resort. Esp for your kids age. I'd probably stay at pop if it means saving $1064. Thats a lot of $$$!!!! Think about the other stuff you could do with all that cash.

OP here! Sorry it took forever to make the changes but we ended up doing 2 day RO at POP with the 20% late summer discount, then on the 31st-7th doing FD at POP as well. We were going to do a split stay either way to get the FD so it works out that we save that much more $ at POP. Already got our MNSSHP tickets for 9/1 as well! Really excited to have all that extra cash to do extras so hopefully we have as good experience at POP as many others have had! I just can't wait for August already!! Thanks for the advice everyone!

I loved Pop and would probably save the money. The only thing is that when I stayed there a few years ago, the beds were so hard, it was like sleeping on the floor. Did Pop get new beds within the past 3 years? I'd like to go back, but can't sleep on those rock hard beds.

I would go with POP..as an additional trip I'm going in Sept. for MNSSHP and staying at POP. This will be our 3rd time doing this. We have APs so book room only. I was hoping room discounts would come out and when the promotion was available today WL with 30% discount is still almost triple the amount of POP. Just not worth it.

DS (7) loves POP and DH and I prefer it to moderates. The food court is great, CMS, atmosphere, etc. wonderful and rate perfect for an extra trip.

The rooms are small..but if you're out most of the day in parks and such what's the difference? My only complaint would be that the beds are full size instead of queen and can be a bit tight for 2 adults. We are 3 so one of us sleeps with my son and the other in the full size and it's more comfortable for all.

Update!

OP here again, thanks so much guys, I ended up switching to CSR I can never make up my mind and always doubt my decision! Its just that it came to about the same price with upgrading the FD at POP and DH REALLY wanted the queen beds and liked the look of the rooms, (I didn't, the dark furniture reminds me of my own room! ) I requested Cabanas 9A which seemed like a good spot on the Map. Now I hope I don't change before August! Unless POR magically becomes available of course Thanks again for the insight!
