Question Snorkeling on CC

Can you bring your own snorkeling gear to Castaway Cay in order to find the Mickeys and Minnies??

Will they allow you to snorkel??

Thanks!

Yes. You will have to use a vest while snorkeling but you can get one at no charge at the rental counter.

Yes, you can snorkel at CC. I always bring my mask and snorkel when I cruise only because I also go scuba diving as well at some of the other ports. Plus I like having my own gear that I know fits me perfectly.

I would bring your own gear. We left ours on the ship since our cabana came with gear included. It didn't fit as well as ours and the masks were scratched and hazy.

Do they rent just the fins for a lesser price than the whole set? I'd like to bring my own mask and snorkel but not pack the fins because of weight.

I've done this twice, and once they just handed me the fins and said no charge, and once I was charged $10 for the fin rental (I'm not sure what the full set rental is).

Now since I'm diving in most of the ports I bring my own fins, but that was my experience.

Exactly what we do, as noted by a PP.

The difficulty you'll have buying something on-line, is that you can't see if the mask fits your face well and doesn't leak. Most (note, I said most, not all) can be treated as 1 size fits all, especially when you're just looking to snorkel and not diving, and you're fitting adults, not kids. The snorkel looks to be a good style with a bottom valve and top protector and not just a bent plastic tube and the fins are fine as well, I like the back strap fins rather than the heel cup fins and these have that.

My local dive shop here in Colorado sells packages like this, so it's a decent quality, it's just if you've got a super thin face you might run into issues with mask fit, otherwise, it looks good.

Do you have a Costco near you and are you a member? They have their snorkel sets out for sale already. I think the adult ones are $38 may be $40, so a few bucks more, but at least with the Costco, if it doesn't work out for you, it's easy to return it. My kids have been using the sets from Costco for a few years and have had good luck with them. I bought myself and DH each a set but I haven't tried it on yet, because I've been sick off and on all winter and I didn't want to get my germs on it.

No we don't have a Costco.
We do have a Sams club. I wonder if they have good ones. They are probably the same as the ones at Walmart though. We will have a Dicks Sporting Goods soon but they are about $60 each there.

We buy online. We have had good success with the TYR brand and my mermaid tail is made with FINIS feet. No reason to buy at retail unless your deal is ridiculously good (like our local Bargain Hunter store, but you have to check stuff over for damage.)

I have learned that I H-A-T-E snorkels. I don't even use masks any more. clear goggles and a mermaid single monofin are all I use, and I can't stand biting on that thing or having the water splash in.

Just saying, if someone realizes that they like goggles better than masks, or just masks and fins, whatever you like, you can use. No one has to use a snorkel...

I just got back last week and asked about fins - they wanted $14 for them...! Thanks but no thanks. I can get an entire snorkel outfit for $10 or less in Hawaii - I can live without fins if you're going to up-charge me that much. Swimming without fins was harder with the rougher water conditions but I didn't mind. Really wanted to pack our fins but they're so incredibly bulky...

This package looks decent, however as someone previously mentioned it's better to try on the masks to make sure it fits you properly because everyone has a unique shaped face. To do that you fold back the strap (over the front of the lens), gently place the mask over your face and inhale through your nose slightly. A good fitting mask will stick to your face without you having to hold it. The fins in the package also look fine but I typically use those strap fins with diving booties to prevent irritation. Snorkel is fine although I travel with a folding model to save space. Do you have a Sports Chalet near you? They typically have diving gear.

No we don't have a Sports Chalet. I will keep researching and when we do run across some in a store We will try them on. I have a couple of months to get them.

Thanks to everyone for the tips, options and help!
