Halloween on the High Seas Cruises?

Hi Cruisers!

My Halloween-crazed family (all adults) is curious about the DCL Halloween themed cruises. I've seen some pictures, read the AllEars review, but was hoping to get some first hand opinions from my trusty-DISers.

We are pretty sure we could swing the Sept. 25th sailing using DVC points. We like cruising but are a little tired of the Bahamas itinerary. So, are the Halloween events and decorations, in your opinion, worth the trip?

I'll be honest - that pumpkin tree looks super cool and I'm almost willing to go JUST for him!

Thanks!

The adult costume party was nice. I, personally, would not book that cruise just for the Halloween aspect of it. It just happened to be the only itinerary and time we could do. We enjoyed but it didn't make or break our cruise. Don't have any experience with kids Halloween activities (we were 2 adults).

I've been on quite a few Halloween cruises. The activities fill a little time on one evening, but it really is not even a full day, let alone a whole cruise. I would not choose a cruise based on the Halloween activities.

Halloween party on the Wonder was super fun but, again, it was one night. There were some awesome jack-o-lanterns on top of the buffet but that is all I can remember.

Curious if you went this past October. DCL started a new program for the entire month and some of September so it was different in 2013.

Was on the Fantasy the last two years and on the Magic the four before that. The recent activities were less than the earlier years. I don't know if they scaled things back or if it was a Fantasy v. Magic difference.

It was a nice extra to have on the cruise, but I wouldn't pick a Halloween cruise just for the activities. It seems like some people are expecting a MNSSHP scale event and are underwhelmed with the activities that they provide.

I think its a nice added touch for people who really enjoy the Halloween season. For us, it is one of the small things that would make us go in October no matter how "small" the event may be for some. I wouldnt discount it as a non factor.

The Halloween activities are fine if people keep their expectations low. If a child is expecting trick-or-treating with as much candy as they'd get at home, they're bound to be disappointed.

We love Halloween and enjoyed the cruise a lot. Was some what disappointed in the lack of decorations.

We were on the Dream this year. I could be mistaken, but I was under the impression that they were testing some of the events on the Dream only and will roll them out on all ships next year. It was fun, even though our kids didn't come.
Adult costume dance party was fun
Trick or treat party was madness. We stopped by just to check it out but didn't stay.
If you're into The Nightmare Bfore Christmas, they had Sing-and-Scream viewing parties in the WDT. Meet and greets with Jack an Sally.
Decorations were nice on the Dream.
Not MNSSHP by any stretch of the imagination but a nice touch during October cruises.

We're cruising on the Dream this October (19-23) and probably planning to do a few days at WDW too. Should I plan on bringing costumes for the family?

Yes

We were on the Dream in late October. In Australia, we don't celebrate Halloween at all so we really enjoyed the holiday extras. The actual Halloween events are only held during one afternoon and evening. The boat was decorated for Halloween throughout the entire cruise.

Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Daisy, Donald, Chip and Dale came out twice to meet in their Halloween outfits. There was a Halloween Dance Party during the afternoon. We dressed up all afternoon and evening.

Does anyone know if Jack Skellington is on the Wonder or only on the Dream?

Well last year it was only on the Dream however they have announced the Halloween events will be fleet wide so I would imagine Jack will be on the Wonder

(I can't wait to meet him on the Dream btw!!!)
