New Platinum Cruiser Questions

Hi All,
This will be our first cruise at the "Platinum" level!!!! We are very excited that we have completed the number needed and will now be able to enjoy the wondEARful benefits that come with this.

Can anyone please elaborate as to the gifts, experiences and/or perks given to us at this level? I know what Disney says and that type of thing but just want to hear what others have to say about it. Like, what is the current experience being offered on the Magic? Is the Palos dinner for 2 people or just 1 if both people cruising are Platinum members or is it just 1 per cabin? What is the extra gift given other than the bag? Do you get anything in your room being a platinum cruiser such as food or wine? Is there a special area you can go to after checking in that has food such as a club room? Anything we should not miss doing that only platinum cruisers can do?

Thanks for the answers to any or all of these questions!!!
Adam

There hasn't been an "experience" available on any of the ships for about a year now. You can substitute Palo brunch for dinner. There is not a special area in the terminal for platinum cruisers to go after checking in, though they do get to check in at the concierge desk. The CC gift is changing on the ships and no one has posted what they received in addition to the bag for gold or platinum that I have seen so far. Gold & platinum get the discount in the shops on most items. You get your choice of items and I think there is wine, cheese tray, and another.

There's nothing really. Since we all keep DCL ships pretty filled, DCL has decided that "we don't need no stinking perks!"

Well, it's not that bad - really. No Port Arrival Time - come when you want. a Brunch or Dinner in Palo for "free" and a box of chocolates (or some other gift).

No room upgrades (like other lines), they did away with the larger On Board Room Credit about the time we became Platinum.

If I can remember you have your choice of a bottle of sparkling wine, a fruit tray or cheese platter. Since I can get cheese, fruit free from room service I always opt for the bottle of sparkling wine. Guest Services will call you room and ask which one you want delivered to your cabin.

We were on the Magic December 13th to 18th. We got sparkling wine (other options were a fruit tray or chocolates), the complimentary dinner at Palo, discount in the stores, two 8x6 prints with the purchase of the photo CD and the new Castaway Club gift. We did not get a separate gift this time for being Platinum on the first evening, but halfway through the cruise we had a lovely surprise and got two commemorative 15th anniversary Coke bottles in commemorative packaging.

Here's one I use every time:
At 120 days before sailing, advance booking for onboard amenities and shore excursions.

There have been reports that people have been able to substitute the brunch for the dinner. And some report that the answer was "no". I guess it depends on DCL's mood at the time

Book online in the normal way one of each palo meals, then when your in palo they will ask you if you wish to use your free palo meal. If you go yo dinner at palo first they will assume you want to use it then.

They do allow you to use it for brunch

You are going to get incorrect information when you call DCL's 800# about a variety of topics. It's the policy of the manager at Palo that matters in this case. As someone has said, onboard they will give you the option.

Nov 1 cruise. The platinum gift (left a couple of days into the cruise) was a nice DCL photo frame. They also had a reception, but it was at the same time as our Palo brunch - using the free Palo meal.

Also, the free Palo is for everyone in the stateroom, even if someone is sailing with you who is not Platinum. Unless that has changed in the last month.

So, for our upcoming cruise....son booked us in 2 FL resident rate rooms, with DH in one room and me in the other, son in one and his FL friend in the other. All should get the "free" Palo meal and we all got the FL resident rates.
