How far in advance should one book? Epcot resorts.

We are planning a August 18-22, 2014 trip this year. My husband would prefer to stay at one of the three resorts on The Boardwalk. The kids have narrowed it down to the BC.

How far in advance should I be booking the room? I gather there is no harm in booking a room only and then adding a discount later, if one becomes available. Is it less hassle to wait or do these resorts tend to book up months in advance? Is it a big hassle to add the discount later and are discounts usually for a very specific room category?

Also, do you need a room reservation to book ADRs?

Our last Disney trip was impromptu, and all the Epcot resorts were booked a month out. We were able to get a lovely room at the Poly, but this time dh really wants to stay close to Epcot.

191 days before you are planning to go. Then get ADR s on day 190, especially BOG.
If you want a specific room type at BC, regardless of discount, book it then. If you have budget constraints, book the room that you would choose based upon budget then change when discounts are available.

ADRs are actually made 180 days before your check in date. If you have a WDW room reservation, you can then make ADRs for up to 10 days following your check in date. I like to have a room res before my 180 day mark so I can book ADRs when they open.

If you know your travel dates and know you want to stay at BC, I'd go ahead and book a room-only reservation as soon as you're able. For room-only, you'll pay a deposit of one night's stay (the most expensive night, if rates vary during your stay), then nothing else is due until you get there.

I know lots of people book ahead then make changes as discounts and packages come out, but I haven't done that personally. I think it's just a call to WDW, though.

(PS, I love BC! The lovely stroll to Epcot is a wonderful perk.)

I have been booked for my August 2014 trip since the end of July. As soon as I know my dates, and have priced out what I am willing to spend, I book.

I say, if you have the money and ate for sure on your dates and resort, might as well book it now! You only pay for 1 night for a deposit anyway

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I will make the room only reservation in our budget now and then add a discount or upgrade later if they become available. This way we have the room secured and no one is disappointed.

One thing we like to do as well is make monthly payments on the balance due so that the trip is all paid off a month or two before we arrive. Kind of "spreading the pain out"

This is what I was going to suggest. If you will go regardless of whether or not a discount is released, I'd book now to make sure you get the resort/room type you want. If a discount comes out for your dates, it's easy to have it applied as long as what you have booked is available under that promo (but it's also easy to change room types if you have to in order to get the discount). Good luck and happy planning .
