Florida rates

My BFF lives in Florida and just called me today about booking a 3 night cruise in March. It will be an all girls trip..

So how does it work?? My BFF, my 18yr old daughter and myself will be sharing a room. She lives in Florida so can she get the Florida rate since she lives there and then we pay the out of state rate?

All passengers get the FL rate. One person on the reservation must submit proof of FL Residency within 48 hours of booking.

So I guess that is the problem we are having. My BFF is trying to book it but when she puts the discount code FLR, it's saying that there's no room available. But if she ommits the discounts, then there's space. Does that sound right?

The Florida rates are last minute cruises, where they are trying to fill up the ship. One of my DH's co-workers used to do the last minute cruises all the time. Sometimes she would even book it the day before. Today they have 2 for October and 3 for November with a Florida resident discount. Sometimes it's only one per month or none. There are few selections available last minute and you might not get the dates, port, stateroom, cruise length or destinations you want.

In general if you book early you will get a good rate. You will get to pick what you want, not what is available at the discount rate. We live in Florida and prefer to book early partly because it is hard for DH to get time off work, especially last minute and because we travel with between 16 and 22 family members, all living in Florida. We can't leave anything to chance. The best thing is to book your next cruise while on your cruise.

I don't think they will give you a credit if some staterooms on that cruise get discounted rates at a later date. You would have to cancel before the final payment and re-book when and if something turns up. Lots of cruises are fairly full and never have discounted rates.

Good to know. We're booking anyway. Super excited that I don't have to wait till October 2014 when we do the family cruise.

That is pretty high season being in spring break time. As a fl resident they are less often at the time than others right now plenty. Do not count on it but it might surprise you and happen

FLR rates come out after the PIF date and require a new booking. This means, you will loose at least your deposit (if not more - depends on when it is) and any additional benefit you may have had (like OBB discount and credits).

You will have to do the math and see if it makes sense to cancel with penalties and rebook.

Also, there aren't FLR bookings on every cruise.

Extremely unlikely to have a FLR for spring break.

Our travel agent told us that unless Disney changes their rules, if FLR rates come out after our PIF date Disney will credit our account.

This is not the case currently. We have been able to apply the FLR rate after the final payment due date twice. Once we took a refund; the other time we upgraded to a better cabin. As of right now, DCL will honor a Florida resident rate even after final payment due date.
