Just got off the phone with DVC rep....what?!

We haven't purchased in a LONG time. And after talking with the rep, it hurts to think of how cheap we bought in at I guess those days are gone

Our friends asked us to get the scoop on current pricing through Disney compared to TTS.
The guide said that VGF is $150/pt and that WL and OKW are $130/pt with a $5 deal...making it $125 for resale through them.
I thought I read here recently that resale at most resorts were below $100.
Did something just happen?!

As Disney has raised the price for new points dramatically, the resale market points become more valuable as well. Unfortunately it is a trend not likely to stop.

Most resales are still under $100. Just not through Disney.

We are in the process of buying two contracts at the BWVs through TSS and are paying much less than $100/point. When we met with a DVC rep a few weeks ago they were offering BC for $125/pt but they didn't have any available so my guess is they must get them through turning down contracts people are trying to buy through outside agencies and then jack up the price and sell them. Disney's price for BW was $130 and we are paying below $90.
I would definitely look at the resale sites since you will make out much better.

Cheap resale is not through Disney itself.

Thanks everyone!
I'll have to tell my friends to jump on their decision before the prices really get crazy!

And I though $58.00 a point was kind of expense when I bought in the late 90's. Of course I walked to school in the snow, up hill, both ways.

disney is the timeshare developer, so technically, no "resale" is through disney itself...

I'm of the opinion that prices will go back down somewhat in the next year or 2, I do not believe they will continue to escalate. I don't even think they'll hold adjustment for years that expire compared to today's prices.

Now that's funny! and very true! question: I thought the rules had changed so that a resale not thru Disney did not give you benefits as a member any longer. I s that not true? I would buy resales of DVC, but not confident the points will be treated as a member... any advice?

Not true at all. Resales not purchased direct through Disney get you full member benefits- for all DVC resorts, RCI, and LBVTC. They also give full access to intermittent discounts on park admission, food, and merchandise which are occasionally offered to the membership.

They do not get you access to the non-DVC Disney hotels; to cruises; ABD; or the concierge collection. However most see that as an actual advantage as these latter excluded options are financially better to book with cash anyway. The cost of using DVC points for these options in most cases exceeds the cost of simply paying cash for them.

So in a real way, Disney did resale buyers a favor by limiting the options to use points to their core value. (RCI in most cases isn't a good value except if you have expiring points without a good alternative in-system use, for reasons beyond the scope of this thread.)

Now a Disney timeshare salesperson will try to depict this in a way that makes it seem like you are losing something important if you buy a true aftermarket resale. That's understandable, because they don't get paid for you to buy in any way except through them.

But truly, for the core value of the DVC membership, there is no meaningful value to direct purchase over resale. That could change in the future- but it would be very difficult for DVC to take away the ability of any member to book at any DVC resort subject to availability. And that's the only reason to own a DVC share.
