California Grill before MNSSHP??

I've never been to the CG and have always wanted to go. I was thinking about trying to get a early reservation (5pm) on a night of MNSSHP before heading into the park for the party. My issue is that we will likely be in "park clothes" (i.e Halloween shirts and shorts). Is this an issue?? I know it's a signature restaurant and I certainly don't want to feel out of place or embarrassed. Anyone who's been there before have any thoughts?? Should I just skip it and keep my reservation at The Wave?? Thanks in advance.

We've eaten at CG before MNSSHP and there were others who were dressed for the party. It was great way to start the party as long as you don't mind lining up for big ticketed characters.

Being that it's an early reservation, you're more likely to see folks dressed in park/semi-park attire and families (albeit the usual dress code still applies). You'll see some casual clothes, but it's not going to be the majority of the guests. Given that it's a 5:00 pm ADR, the average Sig takes between 90 and 120 minutes, so you'll probably get to the park just before or a little after the party starts. The most popular characters (like the Seven Dwarfs, Jack Sparrow, and (this year) Jack and Sally) will probably already have long lines, but you'll still be able to do the other party activities. In terms of clothing, it's really up to you. I tend to prefer to wear at least a polo (with shorts) to the Sigs regardless of the time because it will still be a fancier dinner than it would be at a non-Sig. I have the park attire (e.g., t-shirt) in a bag and I change back after dinner and store the clothes in a locker.

So what this tells me is that Disney has a dress code for signature restaurants, but doesn't always enforce it. Is this a correct assumption?

The only time I've ever seen anyone turned away from a signature for dress code was a couple in swimsuits and cover-ups with flip-flops on.

Unless you're really, really inappropriate it's fair to say they don't enforce the dress code too heavily. It is a quite lenient dress code though.

Unless something changes with the reopening, California Grill does not open until 5:30 so that would be the earliest available reservation time.

The only place that has a strict dress code that is enforced is V&A and it is more detailed than the dress code for the signatures.

For the sigs think of it as guidelines. They are more likely to enforce the "Not Permitted" attire:

Men may wear khakis, slacks, jeans or dress shorts and collared shirts. Sport coats are optional.

Women may wear Capri pants, skirts, dresses, jeans or dress shorts.

Not permitted in the dining room are tank tops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, hats for gentlemen, cut-offs, torn clothing and shirts with offensive language or graphics.

I've been to CG a couple times before heading to MK for MNSSHP...I always dress nice for dinner and then bring a change of clothes for the park. We usually dress up in costumes for the Halloween party so we wear our dinner clothes to CG and then change in a bathroom in The Contemporary before hopping on a monorail to MK!
