Even my 14 year old son missed the whole thing (at the buffet again) He didn't believe us until he saw the pictures. It was such a special time for all of us. Not hurried, very genuine interaction. Magic is around every corner on these ships. Sometimes you just have to be at the right place at the right time.
Aw, I had a one on one with Goofy. Our first cruise (see the date below, can't remember) I was watching my younger son from the "lab" playing in the Mickey pool with the lab kids and counselors. I don't know if they still do this. But I was a deck above and the boys were in one ear, the girls in the other and they were playing a relay game. I was just loving watching it, all the yelling, so cute! Then they opened the slide for the kids. This was at night after the late show.

Goofy came by, gave me a hug and made a jester to take a picture with my camera. I then realized I lost my camera. I think I left it in the Walt theater. He motioned to his handler to write something down, she asked me for my stateroom number, he gave me a hug and went down to be with the kids in the Mickey pool. There was a photographer there to take pictures and a group picture. My favorite.

I later got a call from Guest Services that they had my camera!

one night we were on deck 10 walking around. There were some families down by the pool watching a movie on the funnel vision. Goofy came out in a nightshirt, night cap and "goofy" slippers and played for a bit then settled in on one of the loungers between a couple kids to watch the movie. Too bad it was too dark for pictures.

To echo a lot of previous posters. Pixie Dust moments can, do and will happen a lot on a Disney Cruise, with no effort on your part as well. I have often seen an unescorted princess wandering around on embarkation day, usually on the upper decks of the atrium. Just as an example, we also had a wonderful experience on one of our cruises. We were just admiring the gorgeous artwork in the long hall port side between dining rooms and Donald just showed up next to us, unescorted and admired the artwork with us for about 5 minutes. What was really cool is he pointed out all of these almost hidden unique things in the art that we would likely have never seen on our own. There wasn't a lot of other people around so it was like our own private moment with Donald Duck, the art expert.

The best advice is just enjoy the cruise and let it happen.

In the OP's defense and to answer the question - my DS and I did have a meet and greet with all of the characters, right before Until We Meet Again on the Wonder, at the end of April. We happened to be in the right place at the right time - and a cast member randomly invited us to join the party. It was certainly magical - a true highlight! - and something I know will probably never happen again - but PD was on us that night!

So, they do exist - we were lucky enough to stumble (literally) into an invitation. The smiles on my son's face were priceless!

You don't need a picture - you remember it perfectly.

some things need to be say so the value is felt.

anyways, on our last cruise-we met a mother from down
under, with a little girl. so this was a very big expense for
a single mother. it was evident that her little girl had
some major issues if one pay attention. this trip was
very important to her , hoping the disney experiences
would help daughter overcome the trauma from
abuses. her mother put so much into her outfits.

we had a long talk. some professional guidance. later
we gave the mother some special gifts with the focus on her
favorites disney dreams. to our surprise , it brought
her tears of joy.

and we made sure the right disney workers got her name
and her room just in case they could squeeze her in.

though it is only the beginning in overcoming her ongoing
challenges, her mother was already elated with all the
progress prior to this.

money well spent , that not measure in pictures, trophies,
or $. during one of our encounters, she stated that was
her main purpose for their cruise, help her daughter.

this is one area i think disney never disappoint ...because
it starts in a child great expectation. ( yes , the reference
to the story because everyone benefit from act of
kindness /encouragements.

to me....character encounters are fun but most of all-
they can be whatever you desire from them as long as
it for good.

There's no way to make pixie dust moments happen. Hoping for one will just leave you disappointed. What makes them magical is that you have no idea when, where, or if something will happen. I've not been on the cruise yet but I imagine it's no different than the parks. We've had all sorts of little things happen to us. A free pin when my son skinned his knee, a whole roll of stickers (that one made me lol), a friendly pirate who helped my son overcome his fear on POTC ride, a free Michel bar, etc. But here's the thing.....

More often then not, when we go, there are no PD moments. And we still have an amazing time because that's just how Disney is. So go, have a great time, and don't try to make pixie dust happen. If it does, great! If it doesn't, you'll still have a wonderful time.

P.S. awwwwww on the story with goofy watching the movie. How cute is that?

I agree with everyone about magical pixie dust moments just happening. On our cruise my ds with Down syndrome left dinner to use a restroom. Dh and I were still at the table, so we didn't even see this interaction. As ds walked by the lounge, Daisy was there and she invited ds to dance with her! The two of them danced the entire song, and Daisy even 'dipped' ds. The whole thing was magical.

But the best part, for me, was that the reason I even know about it (ds doesn't have many words) is because someone enjoyed the moment, and took a photo, then invested considerable time asking other guests if they knew who my ds was so they could send me the photo! IMHO lots of the magic happens because of the wonderful fellow cruisers who go the extra mile. Thanks to all of you!

nyc...
we are planning a cruise with my nephew for next summer. He has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. We are in the early stages of planning, and it is daunting. He is in his teens, and completely immobile. He can not really do much but see the shows. If we could contact MAW and get a reception, this would be such a great joy for us. After our next cruise in a couple of weeks, we will be CC Gold, and I am praying it is enough for me to reserve Cabana #2 for him.

Can you PM me some contact info for MAW? THANKS SO SO MUCH!!!

The event right before Til We Meet Again has invitations issued and there is no specific way to go about getting invited.

We are a regular family with no additional needs and on two of our cruises we have been fortunate enough to receive an invite. I have no idea how or why but I made very sure to tell my kids that it was probably because someone noticed them being extra polite or considerate to someone on the cruise.

We have enjoyed all our sailings but I have to say on the most recent one (July 25th Med with Venice) we noticed a definite increase in "wild" character interactions - I borrowed that term from someone else but I mean unscheduled character appearances where they are just roaming the ship. We saw Donald, Daisy, Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Chip & Dale and all the Princesses (including Belle in both different outfits) all at different times just wandering around and stopping by to talk to the kids. So don't worry about trying to get an invite to a special event, instead just enjoy all the many character opportunities there are and you never know when the pixie dust might land on you

We've seen Belle in her blue dress unannounced reading stories sitting on the floor near the atrium but on deck four. Several cruises actually.
