DCL Transfer from MCO vs car rental

Would love some feedback on what others have done and what they would do again. We will be flying into MCO around noon for a cruise on the Magic in Feb. I have priced out a rental car including gas and tolls. Even though it is cheaper to rent a car. I do like the convenience of dropping my luggage off at the airport with a Disney Transfer and not having to worry about it again and also not having to deal with picking the car up and dropping it off then catching a shuttle. What have you done?

A good friend of mine always rents a car for their cruises and tried for several years to talk me into doing that, also. She would tell me all the good things, such as convenience, the flexibility to determine when to arrive at the port and, above all, saving money. I would counter with the simplicity, ease, and hassle-free experiences we always had with DCL transportation... until we finally tried a rental car for the first time. We're kicking ourselves for not doing rental cars earlier!!! It's so easy to drop our luggage off at the port and then turn in the rental. We really appreciate the option of stopping at a grocery along the way to pick up sunscreen, bottled water, etc.

Good luck with your decision. Have a great cruise!!

We used Budget for years, using a discount code from mousesavers. Now, we use National because DH has executive status with them.

We use Hertz or Budget. They have offices near the terminal.
Its definitely worth renting a vehicle.

Are you flying in the day of your cruise,if so arriving a noon is cutting it close. It will take about an hour to get off the plane get your luggage get the car. It's an hour drive from the airport to the port. All aboard is 3:45. Any delays and you will miss your cruise,

we fly in the day before - usually 3 0r 4 of us. we do the DCL bus (have done both MCO and WDW locations). honestly, we figure this into the cost of the cruise. it is just easier. the luggage is easier, we donít have to shlep around to the rental car place or pay to park. and i donít have to drive and i can chat with my family and watch that same tape play on the tvs and guess whoís face is smooshed up (dory!) and see chip and dale pack for a cruise! i just like it. i would probably feel differently if our family was more than 4 people, but it works for us!

Something to keep in mind if you're still considering Disney transfers. I just spoke to DCL about pickup times from the airport and was told that the 1st bus leaves around 9:45am and the last bus leaves at 1:30pm. You are definitely going to be cutting things mighty close with a noon flight arrival time. Depending on where you're flying in from, I'd keep my fingers crossed that you don't get hit with any flight delays.

Haven't purchased the flight yet. There is another flight that arrives at 9:30 nonstop and is the first flight of the morning. Might be a safer choice.
