again, you are going to find so many character opportunities that just happen for anyone! i was never a “character” person, but now i am on the cruises! there are several meet and greets with different characters at different places on the ship - all in the navigators, very easy to make sense of when you get there. there are characters on castaway cay! the best thing is that there are random roaming characters every day - keep an eye around the atrium area - you never know who you might run into! chip and dale are favorites - sometimes they wander the deck peeking in the windows. i’m sure i sound like a goober, but really it’s quite fun and i’m betting you will have some pretty fun and unexpected moments onboard!

Great advice! There are lots of great character experiences on the ships that you rarely get in the parks.

There's plenty of magic to go around during the course of the cruise!
I also wasn't offended by the OP's question and I wasn't berating anyone in my response. I was simply making a statement of my opinion to anyone who may have known about this event to not give details about it on the board. There was a thread a couple weeks ago regarding this topic and CMs resenting some of the information sharing here. I wasn't sure if what had been seen was one of the MAW events. I only found out about that because of an incident that happened on our 2006 cruise, and DD6 at the time was invited to it by the character manager in an attempt to make up for the actions of a character accompanier.

The fact is that there are lots of opportunities to meet characters on the ships. When the kids were younger I always called the PALS line at night to get the detailed schedule for the next day. They will tell you the specific times & where each character will be. Get there 10 minutes early and you can start the new line. Just check with the CM standing there with the character. They will have you get at the back of the current line for the next character. We can see 6-7 characters in the hour before dinner this way just in the atrium area on decks 3-5 on the new ships. If you are going to see a princess, make it 20 minutes early. If there is a princess gathering with multiple princesses, at least 30 minutes early. Trust me, that will save you from standing in a much longer line if you wait. Sometimes there are characters scheduled around 7 p.m. This is during the middle of dinner & the show, which makes it the perfect time for a quick meet. Just excuse yourself from the table, tell your servers you will be right back, and go snap a picture and get an autograph. These sessions hardly have anyone in line because of the time they are scheduled.

On our July cruise I ran into Stitch on deck 11 when I was out for an early morning coffee run, Mickey at the elevators when we boarded after our castaway cay day, and Belle at the elevators on deck 7. They were just walking around. Belle didn't even have a cm.

Only thing I can suggest is to not try and make it happen.... Enjoy your cruise as a family and let the pixie dust fall where it may.... It will fall at some point on you, maybe not as the meet and greet, but you will find it everyday somehow.

I would LOVE to find out how to get her in on the special meet and greet, this is our first Disney cruise and we are over the moon excited to experience this through her eyes! Thanks in advance for any tips!
Characters are literally scheduled in 15-30 minute segments, in 2-hour blocks in the morning and in the evenings.

You can call a character line to get the schedule or you can just look on your navigator.

Characters also drop by unannounced (and announced) at the Kids Club.

If you hang out on the sports deck area, they also like to walk by to greet the kids.

Your DD will have SO many opportunities to meet characters left & right that you might have to figure out which character line NOT to get in, since you can't be in 2 places at the same time.

So bottomline, you won't be lacking for character time. Plus there's always that princess gathering with 5 princesses at 9am. The Fab 5 always change their clothing daily, so everyday your pictures will not look the same.

Have fun!

I just wanted to add in OPs defense, there are special meet n greets at the parks like for card holders etc. So I can see asking similarly about special M n Gs on the ship.

Wish us card holders DID get one on the ship actually but i enjoyed our lines. They were relaxing and we met nice people like the Nice Lady who took our princess photos and sent them to us! (We emailed her a Disney gift card as a thank you. Disney people are generally such nice happy people!)

I had far more random character greetings on the ships on my first few cruises, including a fairly hilarious moment with Goofy on deck 4 on the Magic back in 98 as I was running.

Not so much now...or at least not as much...since they schedule them, but it still happens, and I do cherish those moments, especially with my daughter now!

My kids had a wonderful time with all the characters. They go above and beyond for everyone. I would not worry about a vip meet. By the second night peter pan and snow white both knew my sons by name. And the cruise was sold out. So the characters saw a lot of kids. But everyone gets their own special attenetion. The kids clubs are also wonderful. On our 7 night the boys got to meet a lot of characters in the clubs and play games or trivia or something with them. Have fun. Also go to the morning playhouse Disney wake up shows. They usually are not crowded.

Probably some of the best advise on the subject. IMHO

Our special moment happened when we were taking pictures right out side the atrium..... trying to catch a sunset when my daughter spied belle waiting for an elevator her thru the glass doors and started waving to her... So Belle walked over and out the doors to chit chat with my daughter....

sigh ... yeap those are the sweet moments.

You are in for a great experience with the cruise. We have taken two cruises with DCL and have had magical moments on both. On our cruise last month my son and I ran into Snow White wondering around alone on the top level of the atrium. She stopped and chatted with him and we took photos. Not one other person came along. The biggest surprise came when we went to the Sports Deck to get Goofy's autograph. Once we got his autograph and picture we decided to play a around of putt-putt. Well, here comes Goofy indicating that he wants to play as well. The adults sat that round out as Goofy and my son played the entire round (not just one hole) together. Awesome!!!!

Video of Goofy playing putt-putt with my son.

We were playing shuffleboard with our 10 year old daughter when Goofy decided to join us. He played for about 10 minutes with my daughter and posed for pictures with her. The deck we were on was not highly traveled at the time so absolutely no one else was around. Even my 14 year old son missed the whole thing (at the buffet again) He didn't believe us until he saw the pictures. It was such a special time for all of us. Not hurried, very genuine interaction. Magic is around every corner on these ships. Sometimes you just have to be at the right place at the right time.

just like to sneak in a few observations & past experiences.

i think not forcing the desired encounter is the way to go. i
don't think anyone don't understand that every parent has
their child best interest @ heart.

but others can lose the meanings for special greets when it
become more important to them them their child.

we have been doing dcl cruises since the wonder 's first. on that
cruise we didn't have any expectations because we didn't know
anything about cruising. still it holds some of our best /precious
memories. when we did our first in 99, we really thought it
would be our last too instead of the beginning.

i hope dcl never has to close down such special moments because
of poor guests response. it reminded me of previous threads
where so many hold the feelings so tight-fist that their hearing
are loss. i think it a situation that has many correct answers
pending one's own personal background.

i agree with the "thought" of keeping encounters secret if one is
trying to argued that their family is more disney deserving vs.
other families. the only time i have shared "ours" ~ was a community
board thread where i felt comfortable & friendship.

i think most of us have connections to family members that life
has placed many challenges in their paths. if a simple act of
kindness helps them to forget the heart aches & misery- is also where
i think the true value "lies"~ in all the special moments any cruise
member create. we had close families that knows to well about
the pain of serious , life threatening conditions. however, all 3
of our children are healthy - & as many as my co-workers remind
me...they don't abuse etoh, drugs-rx/street. they don't even
smoke. i considering these facts as our blessings.

now my children are growing into adulthood and finding new
thrills in different interests, i never get tired watching others
having their special /family time & remembering ours. what got my
interest here, was the "point" made by posters citing many
different but no less magical -disney moments. hope they remain
precious memories for years to come.

we finished the trans~a cruise earlier. ours came so unexpected
when we getting to venture out on a port call. dressed in our
block "o" tees , in different colors --they had the fab five in the
hobby. i think it is what the characters stand for & the dedication
that brings each to life that makes them special...& the
encouragements to children. ( add a lil' mental health insight-
being ok in being different and accepting others. ).

we have always been involved with supporting our local community.
some projects included sharing our own blessings -career successes,
good health, & many others---it just something i am driven for.
especially since i am directly connected to the cripple children
program---as one of their success story. therefore, children
programs are the ones we have participated in ---including
running a soap box derby , big brother /sister, scouting &
so forth. the thing i learn was this hidden reward ` the more
we gave, the more we received.

now that i am physical unable to do the derby ( those lil'cars
ruin my back)...a local church group asked us if we could help
3 needy families during the of those families were
living in a barn with dirt floors. 5 kids. this was in 09, and we
have expanded to add our co-workers "collecting " all year
long. also we became dvc members in 09, so we have a
great new home for all the stuff they have given us. what i feel
was so neat is when we begun, their oldest son asked if i
could take their picture as they have none. without realizing
it, we started a new disney tradition between our families---
though they can only dream of disney currently, does not
mean they don't share the same feelings -the same magic
being referred here. all i do is let the disney employees
know about them & how important their "gifts" are to
children everywhere ...and delivered any messages they
give on christmas eve /day. i continue my pictures taking
( well i have dreams too ) that we return back so they
can "see" their magic @ it best!

for the record, i have awards, trophies , all kind of recognitions
that you can think of. but the "secret" i want to share is
this: i thought we were doing something nice on the
first visit...not knowing what to expect---heck we got loss
several times, driving all over tar-nation---but in reality, these
children gave me the best christmas i ever experienced!
they were so happy, so excited with happiness /glee...
that they crawled all over us...they gave me insights. every
year, they have given us so many precious moments...
that have enriched our life, not the reverse.

we are blt owners. one of our goal in the future is to send
this family on our points. the challenge is transportation,
meals, clothing & making it work.

i hope the real purpose for those posting their moments
was to seek sharing instead of claiming importance. if so,
i fell sorry for they are missing so much meanings. maybe
something that happened on our last christmas visit
will help? as i was unloading the boxes, the oldest son
came out to help & shared with me his very special
christmas gift--a new pair of boots. being from a
large extended family myself really helped me to pick
up on how "unselfish" he was being~``see?...he was sharing
his special gift with me, but outside /away- from his other
siblings- that his parents could not afford. nor was it
missed the previous christmas ...where they were wearing
"tongs" in freezing temperatures/snow. thanks for my
fellow coworkers, elves.

i could be wrong but i believe in morals are about feeling
good about doing right & the feedback they add to life.

my personal views of the it is hard work, very
hard. it is a very special by "nature" & in all the ways they add
the human 'being" to beloved role models ...that i wish
more adult would follow. besides all the hard work, is the
dedication & caring ..that offer a message to anyone
willing to believe. one can't "see, hear, smell, or touch"
such feelings instead it something inside that has the
power to make you happy. to me, very happy. i can't see
any reason to waste it by turning it into something
it was never meant to be-envy.
