I really miss the long gone menus....

Gotta say - it really hit me dining at the Kona Cafe' last night. I know if has been many, many years, but I really miss when you could go into Kona, Grand Floridian Cafe, Yacht Club Galley, Concourse Steakhouse, etc. (basically all of the "moderate/mid-level" restaurants across the resorts at dinner time, and be able to order a more "casual" meal. By this I mean a good burger, salad, grilled chicken or fish sandwich (I remember having a grilled sushi-grade salmon burger at the Kona Cafe' that was crazy good).

Now, and I know that this is old news, you are forced into a plated dinner, at a much higher cost. The moves were made (as all Disney moves are) to drive increased revenue, but jeez - it's crazy that there is practically no place on property (save for a couple theme park restaurants) where you can order a good quality burger at night - but instead must order braised Taiwanese duck at a "cafe'" restaurant.

I know there is quick-service - but sometimes you feel like a better than McDonalds experience of shlepping trays and pumping ketchup.

I know once Disney makes a move in the price/revenue department they never turn back, but, just needed to vent.

PS - Boy has Kona gone downhill. Another changed menu. Food was terrible. Everything had been under a heat-lamp for days. Plates were all 800 degrees F, and food was hard from baking under the lamps. Was just to tired and late to send back or complain.....

Try Olivia's at Old Key West. They have an all-day menu that includes both the sandwiches/salads you are looking for along with more elaborate entrees. The food is excellent and it is a must-do for us on every trip. Their key lime pie is the best on Disney property.

I agree with you about Kona. It used to be in our top 5 but after a couple of really bad meals we won't be going back for a while.

If it helps, there's a burger on the dinner menu at Big River Grill & ESPN.

I will second Olivia's

for the best lunch/dinner menu on property. We ate there today for lunch. I had the French Dip and my wife had the club and both were outstanding.

Do I miss the old restaurants and menu options...yes...but since life is a forever changing matrix we have to adapt to survive

We were just talking about Concourse Steakhouse and how much we missed it. Great food at decent prices. One thing I am not a fan of is the all day menu at some places. 50s. At lunch I would like a sandwich or burger. Not a full meal!

And I got the chicken sandwich at dinner. At BRG. The server had to go and make sure it was available and luckily it was that night!

Agree totally with you! We had a really nice dinner there and DH still hopes they bring it back. I think it will take a little more than pixie dust for that to happen.

We've also had good burgers at BRG and ESPN.

Concourse was one of my favorites also. Great burgers for lunch.

The Wave has some interesting and good sandwich and salad options.

You could always just eat at Kona or wherever for lunch, they have sandwiches and salads on their menu then.

One of the best burgers on property! Conch fritters are delish as is the key lime pie! The burger I really like at the MK, LTT, lunch menu, quite good, sit down in a nice cool dining room!

For better food we've gone from the typical Disney park restaurants to resort restaurants at the Dolphin, Swan, Boardwalk, OKW, SSR etc!

I know I am not the only one but I miss the Le Cellier burger. One of the best burgers I have ever had.

If you want a burger, the Dolphin Fountain is recommended if you're anywhere in the Epcot resort area. It's not a Disney resort, so they are not subject to Disney menus or preparation. You are out of luck if you are on the dining plan though.
