Trail's End questions

Hi!

Currently we have a reservation for dinner here. The food looks right up our alley (comfort food, relaxed, etc). But, the price is a little "steep" for what I consider basic food.

Wondering if maybe breakfast (cheaper..) would be a better option? How is the dinner buffet vs. the breakfast buffet? What about ease of getting there for an earlier morning bfast?

Or, what about if we got some of the grab and go chicken meals? Is there a place to sit (preferably air conditioned) and enjoy the "take out"?

Thanks!!

good food

I wouldn't say that this place is "expensive". I think it's the cheapest buffet on all of Disney's property. With that said, when we have been there in 2007 and this year, we ate dinner here twice both times and it was wonderful. We made a point to come back here to eat this year. They have cornbread croutons which are very good, so good that I got their cornbread receipe and have made them for home.

I don't think that you will be dissappointed.

We have had both breakfast and dinner on our last trip. It was good. We thought the breakfast, although not as many different items as others, was by far the best breakfast we had anywhere else. Dinner was good too. For Disney prices, it's a good value.

The giddy up and go meals are for take out. There are picnic tables outside you could use but not in the ac. If it is dinner time and the sun is down, it may not be to bad outside.

I am not sure where you are staying to answer your ease question. If you take the boat from Mk it is in walking distance to Trails End. If you drive a car you would have to park up front and take any internal bus to Trails End.

Breakfast

is 14.99 for the buffet and dinner is 24.99. By far the best buffet value at Disney. In the past month we have eaten at both and the food has been terrific! They share a kitchen with Hoop Dee Doo and serve the same wonderful chicken, ribs, cornbread, and tons more choices. They have peel and eat shrimp, great deserts ( the carrot cake and double chocolate are incredible) )

I love the pomegranate lemonade but the has all the Coke products as well and it is included in the buffet price

We've eaten pizza and chicken at Crocketts Tavern, that's downstairs of Trails End...

Breakfast is the best at Trails End.... Dinner is decent too but lunch is awful... Skip lunch ...!

Thanks, guys!

We are coming from Pop. So we will just take a bus to MK and then a boat to FW. But I wasn't sure if boats ran that early in the AM (we like to be up, out and eating by 8 or 815).

It is a decent price, but will still set us back near $100 for "basic" fare....ya know?

I appreciate the input!

One thing you could do is eat a later breakfast so it is your breakfast and lunch. (Example: 10:45) You could spend a couple hours in MK then take the book over. Or an early dinner say 4, so it's your lunch/dinner. It is all you can eat so you can probably just snack for your other meals. Someone on here mentioned breakfast was $14.99 but we paid $19.16. I believe 17.03 is the cheapest breakfast. We paid $26.62 for dinner. It is a lot but for Disney prices but it isn't as bad as say $40 for Ohana!

Our Ratings of Trails End: (rev 2/11/2013)
. . . food price value: B
. . . food quality: B
. . . food quantity: B
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: C
. . . eatery atmosphere: B
. . . eatery convenience: D
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff attentiveness: C
. . . character interaction: n/a

NOTE: The above ratings are for breakfast and dinner, which have
good, tasty comfort food. We like them both as dining alternatives,
as they are reasonably priced for Disney meals. Lunch, however,
is far, far behind in quality and value. In Spring-2011, they changed
lunch menus and we no longer recommend midday Trail's End. For
dinner, try the fried chicken and "make-your-own-potato" bar. At
breakfast, you NEED, NEED, NEED the sticky buns. Also, the nice
thing about breakfast, is the low crowd level, since many campers
prepare breakfast at their site. Trail's End Breakfast Buffet is the
second best breakfast buffet, just behind The Wave breakfast buffet
at Contemporary.

We are eating there for the first time this year and that is so good to hear. It sounds wonderful. I'm excited.

I think the price is very reasonable considering the price of other dinner buffets at WDW.

I am ready for some fried chicken.

The Trails End to go chicken meals are awesome, tons of food, and very, very reasonably priced! If you don't mind eating outside on a picnic table, I'd say that's the way to go if you want really reasonable, good food and good fun.

That was a thought I had - but we are going the second week of August - probably not prime "sit outside and eat hot food" weather. Either blazing sun or torrential down pour. But I will definitely keep that in mind for future (non summer) trips!

I think we will stick with Trails End and see what happens...

Thanks, again, all!

Just a post so others may learn from my mistake.

Lunch is not a buffet. It is order off the menu. The lunch menu does not have the fried chicken that is on the dinner buffet.

I had a really good pulled pork sandwich, but it wasn't a buffet nor the fried chicken I thought I was going to eat.

I didn't spend enough time on the Dis doing research!
