transferring mother's car to me, help

My mother gave me her car and I am in the process of getting my car ready to sell. Problem is her registration is due Aug 1st. I was hoping to transfer my cars plates to hers, but if it is not sold yet I am not sure what to do. Do I have to pay for her registration and on top of that not be able to transfer plates if I can't sell it so quickly. I am really so unsure of what I have to do. Thanks for any help. Any good ideas?

If your mother can no longer drive, you can look into a non operational tag which is much cheaper than a standard renewal. Then transfer the tags once yours sells.

Call your local office and explain your situation.

I would just go ahead and transfer the plates now, since it appears that you have to pay a percentage of the vehicle "plate fee" or whatever that is.

Of course I do not understand your state laws so I would stick with asking the local office.

You need to contact your DMV - states differ so much.

Here I transferred my mothers low number plates to my DS. I just cancelled off my Mom's car.

So your state may be hugely different.
