Change in Disney's Cancellation Policy in 2014?

I just received a note from our TA about 2014 trips being able to be booked today.

It also contained this one little sentence of, 'Disney's cancellation policy is also changing for 2014.'

Does anyone know what this change is? I love being able to book with a $200.00 deposit & cancel later (up to 45 days before trip) without penalty and get 100% of that back. Does anyone know if this is changing or what the change is for 2014?

Thanks!

Hi. I'm booking a 2014 vacation online right now. Reviewing the "terms & conditions" regarding cancellation it states:

Cancellation of Reservation - For cancellations made 45 days or more prior to guest arrival, amounts paid, minus cancellation fees assessed by third party hotels or other suppliers, vacation insurance premiums, and other amounts owed, will be refunded. For cancellations made 2 to 44 days prior to guest arrival, amounts paid, minus a cancellation fee of $200.00 per package and minus any cancellation fees assessed by third party hotels or other suppliers, vacation insurance and other amounts owed, will be refunded. For cancellations made 1 day or less prior to guest arrival, the full price of the package is non-refundable.

Changes to Reservation - For changes made 44 days or less prior to guest arrival that results in a change to the package price, a change fee of $50 per package, plus any change fees assessed by hotels or other suppliers, will be charged. Such change fees must be paid in addition to any increase in the package price resulting from the change.

I do not see anything else out of the norm...and this seems normal to me... unless it used to be 30 days; or the change fee didn't used to happen?

What I posted above was booking a magic your way package with tickets; where only $200 deposit is required.

Booking a room only shows this:

Cancellation Policy

In order to receive a full refund of your deposit, notification of cancellation must be received at least 5 days prior to your arrival date. To cancel or modify an existing reservation, call (407) 939-7429*.

And that only.

Cancellation policy - For 2014 cancellations made 44 days to 2 days prior to arrival, there is a cancellation fee of $200 per package. For 2014 reservations cancelled 1 day prior to arrival through scheduled day of arrival, the full package price is non-refundable.

I wonder if any fees will be applied if you want to keep the same length of vacation but change the check-in date, like calling to change the check-in date from Sept. 10th to Sept 12. Or if you go from a 10 day vacation to a 7 day vacation.

You could still avoid this by rescheduling if you find out the day before your trip that you can't go. Just reschedule to some date way in the future. Then you just pay the change fee of $50. We had to do that once when my Dad's retina detached the day before a family trip.

I agree. I don't think too big of a deal either. One whole day. And it wouldn't really affect many; except for those rare cases like My3Princez above.

According to the terms, any change inside of the 45 days will incur a change fee. They used to wave the fee if you actually increased the value of the package (adding days), but the way I'm reading it, they will now charge the change fee regardless of whether it has increased or decreased in value.

Change fees for room only reservations would only apply if the change was made inside 5 days.

Yes, I think this pretty common at "vacation" destination hotels. The hotel we stay at when we go to the shore has a 5 day advance cancellation policy or no refunds.

Well, at least the room-only cancellation policy is not changing for 2014. I booked a couple of days ago and it is the same as last year: you get your one-night deposit refunded if you cancel at least 5 days prior. If it's less than 5 days, then you lose your one-night deposit. But has it always said that the cancellation and refund policy is subject to change?

CANCELLATION POLICY: In order to receive a refund of your deposit, including credit card deposit transactions, notification of cancellation must be received 5 days prior to your arrival date. To cancel a reservation, call (407)-W-DISNEY(934-7639). Additionally, if you are holding any other reservations, they will not be cancelled unless you advise us. The cancellation and refund policy are subject to change.
