connecting rooms - noise levels

I'm curious as to how much noise transference is a problem on connecting staterooms. We are booked for a CAT5A and unfortunately it seems like they are almost all connecting rooms on the level and area of the ship we would like to be.

So I'm a little concerned about noise transfer between rooms. is there anything anyone can say to put my fears at rest?

Our other option is we can upgrade to a CAT4A and be in the same area of the ship that we like and get a non connecting room.

It's just the wife and I on this cruise and we both value a quiet room. So, let me know if this has been an issue for you or am I just being overly concerned with what is basically a non issue.

We had a cat 4A in 2010 & 11. There wasn't much noise at all. We were on Deck 9 on the wonder and 10 on the Dream.
You may here a little muffle voice now and again but not really loud. Unless its a really party family next to you, but hopefully a quiet family.

There is usually more noise outside your door if you are in the area where the lifts are or somewhere busier. We stick to middle Aft area. Less people traffic.

We have noticed a little noise before, but it came through the wall, not the connecting door.

As above, we heard a lot more noise from kids running up and down the hallway.

Just off of the Fantasy on Saturday. Have had connecting cabins for all of my cruises as we sail together as a family. No issues with noise when one or both (mine and my sister's) of the connecting doors are closed, more noise leaches in from the walls or hallway. Most of the time we would have to open the connecting door in our cabin and then knock on the connecting door in my sister's cabin to see if they were awake/watching TV, etc.--couldn't hear anything to get a clue about their activities.

Well we heard the couple next to us "playing" a few night on our cruise. We were on the magic, and it was through the wall.... defiantly no sound proofing walls...it actually woke my wife which in turn woke me and a chuckle was had.

Awesome, thanks for the replies everyone! I'd prefer not to spend the extra 300 bux just to upgrade to a non connecting room. I'm glad to hear I shouldn't have too much concern with the noise from a connection.

We sail on the fantasy in February, and room selection is really the only concern I have about the cruise, at this point. Thanks again!

We've never heard people either thru the walls or a closed connecting door. You can hear people in the hallway.

It's very rare to hear through any of the walls. Noise from above is more of a problem on the stateroom decks directly below the pools, etc.
For extra reassurance, roll up a towel and place it along the bottom edge of the connecting door. Just be sure to let your stateroom host know why it's there, or he/she will remove it every day!

^^^ Excellent tip - thank you!! ^^^

I guess I/we are in the minority as I have definitely noticed the talking more with a connecting cabin. If I have a choice, I prefer not to have connecting cabins. It's certainly not a deal breaker by any means but I have definitely noticed the neighbors more with the connecting doors and I've been on two cruises with them and two without them.

We have heard more noise coming through the walls than through the door, especially kid on their 'bunk beds'. We have a noise maker on my phone that we use for white noise, so that helps with that. On my Carnival cruise, we could hear people 3 rooms down on their balcony screaming and yelling. Totally called about that one!

I suggest a noise maker or something if you are a sound sleeper. The ships creak and hangers will move (either take empty ones down or hang something on every one to prevent the noise), so I find it helpful to drown all kinds of noises.

We haven't heard anyone 'playing' in a neighboring room since our last say at POR (when it was called Dixie Landings)... and I was too young to really know what that was!

The one time we had neighbors who apparently couldn't converse without screaming, more noise clearly tranferred to our room through the connecting door than through the walls. Other kinds of noise--like noise from the bunk beds right next to the wall--might not transfer more through the door, but I will guarantee that screaming carries through the door better than it does the walls. And it carries really, really well from one verandah to another.
